gooday to everyone,i hope my first post doesn't cause to much uproar,i presently own a 2006 gmc sierra 3500 lbz duramax with 3.73 ratio, i'm starting to look to upgrade and i'm looking at ram trucks, theres no way i will pay 100,00.00 for a new truck,so used trucks is where i'm looking i don't want to go to old so 2016 up unless someone gives me a good opinion on something older now upgrade is my goal ,im pulling a 38ft fith wheel with a gross weight of aprox. 14,000lbs,do i need to go to the ho or the regular would be ok,my question is there anyone out there that went from a gmc or ford and now ram and they think there ram was an upgrade,i see alot od 4.10 ratios out there but can this truck be fairly decent on gas millage and do i need so low of ratio i have a friend that has a 2005 with 5 speed auto and his rpm on hightway is alot higher than my gmc,i'm not trying to insult anybody but i know this forum should help me to change to a ram thanks for your imputs

I came from a Chevy 2500 Dmax, you are on a RAM site, so of course the answer is going to be an upgrade. For me, not really, just the cab and front end was nicer than the Chevy, and I could get a higher payload, otherwise I probably would have stayed with the Chevy. As for pulling 14K lbs, you do not need the H.O., the standard will be just fine, and even really don't need the 4.10. But if you want something bigger in the future, having the right truck already is sure nice.

I have a 16K lb toy hauler on order, and will be pulling it with my '19 3500 SRW with the H.O. I may upgrade to a dually, we will see. As far as the H.O., if I could go back, I would have just got the regular 6.7. Don't figure the H.O. really makes much difference until you are 18K+. But that is just me.

2005 was the 48RE 4 speed automatic. 68RFE 6 speed automatic arrived with the 6.7.

I have never owned the other brands, but my 2019 is the non HO motor with 3.73s. It has yet to disappoint me with anything I put behind it. My camper probably weighs close to 16k. I do wish(not need) I had a 10 Spd, but there you are back at those 100k trucks again....

There are (were??) trucks for under 60k. My truck it's was 52k for a new 2020 RAM 3500 Tradesman HO Aisin 4.10 Crew Cab Long Bed dually.

Guess most folks cannot deal with only a "Tradesman" because they assume vinyl seats and floors.

i wouldn't go bigger because in ontario canada you must stay under 24000lbs with class G liscence other wise you need an class A so its a hole new game that i'm not interested in but thanks wileykid,i would still like to hear more opinions thanks

A SO would be more than sufficient as would the 3.73 gears.
I would suggest a 3500 thought for towing a 5th wheel of that size due to pin weight.
I know a ton of guys pull them with 2500s but you see lots of them upgrading. Especially the ones traveling hundreds of miles at a time traveling.
I’ve owned them both 2500/3500s and I just like the confidence of how a 3500 handles with the payload capacity.

I second this. I have a 2500 and a TT. If I go up to a 5er I plan on upgrading to a 3500. At that point the price difference is negligible.

You dont need a dually a srw will be more than enough to stay away from getting an D or AR licence (a restricted for non transports) the combined 24,900lbs your allowed with a G can be handled with the srw

well i have a dually now and i wouldn't go with srw,the stability of a dually is no comparison and with 2000lbs pin weight a dually is alot better so i'll have to watch dry weight of truck

hey wileykid was the ride better in the chevy or the ram as it has a solid axle thanks

The Chevy, but not by much. They are both comfortable for what they are, but I am not as worn out in the Chevy as the RAM after 500+ miles.

thanks,i had a 2005 gmc envoy back in the days it had air bags with auto leveling, when you were stop at a red on uneven road the compressor put the truck level this was the most comfortable vehicle i had, that's why i'm thinking of the dually with air ride ,does it have a good ride even if its empty,if anyone has one i would appreciate their views on this truck ,good or bad

If I’m not mistaken, the air assist 3500s are the roughest riding trucks empty.

Agree that Tradesman is the best deal out there. Got the level 2 package and you get just the right amount of nice options for the price including carpet . May be biased though :) Although, I also have a 2012 Tahoe PPV with vinyl floors and I love it because the kids just can’t ruin it ;)

My 2020 RAM 3500 Tradesman HO Aisin
My 2021 3500 HO CTD 4X4. I traded 2018 2500 CTD 4X4 because the cargo capacity too low for my 40' toy hauler.
