Ram better come out with a a FULL fifth gen HD soon

Sigh. I already covered this...

I owned a Ram. I wanted a Ram 3500. I'll buy a Ram when they update the HD trucks and catch up to the others. That's one reason why your replies have been somewhat ridiculous.

Any other questions?
Being condescending might work with your wife but it's not going to work with me.

I just don't feel they need to catch up so from my side of the table your comments sound ridiculous. I use to think they did until I drove a Ford then came back and learned the hard lesson not to fix what isn't broke.

I don't care if it works. If you want to be snarky, you're going to get it in return.

Right. That's your opinion. Mine, and many others, are different.

Read your comments. I wasn't snarky until you tried discrediting me as if Im the only person who has had quality problems with Ford. I literally spelled out the issues I had backed by the CEO so I wasn't just arguing for arguments sake. I don't recall you stating anything quality related about Ram while that's been my primary issue with Ford. She might look pretty on the outside but if she's ugly on the inside you'll eventually become miserable and that was my experience. Had I not had quality related issues I'd still be in the Ford today. Never again.

So you thought "why are you even here" was an appropriate response to what I said? Really? I don't particularly care, but it's odd that you're complaining about my reply to that comment.

Your isolated experience with one truck isn't indicative of anything outside of your isolated experience with one truck. "Quality issues" is something I can dig up for any vehicle on the road. I mean..."go wiggle the center console." Come on, man.

Brand loyalism is undefeated...:D

That was a response to you stating there are more Super Duty's than Rams sitting in peoples driveways insinuating that makes them a better truck. That's always been the case so if that's your measuring stick why are you here?

My problems weren't isolated. When I started having issues a quick Google search made it very apparent how wide spread they are. The issues with the doors is a well documented issues with guys going as far as installing GM door checks to try and solve the problem. Go ahead, do a quick search on Ford Super Duty door creak or Ford Super Duty interior rattle and be amazed at what you see. Not so isolated after all.

...and that's an accurate data point. Your response to that was snarky, so you got it back.

They always are. There are memes about this crap, but it doesn't ultimately mean a whole lot of anything.

The HD Ram is an aging platform. You think that's a good thing. I don't.

No amount of door creaking or center console wiggling is going to change my mind, or yours.

<snip>

What is the brand most hot shot'ers are driving?

<snip>

These are the guys putting miles on the trucks. Bigly miles.
My personal experience, observation and knowledge indicate the F450 is the most popular truck for hotshot. A hotshot is defined as someone with a Class A CDL pulling loads they procure themselves (bid board, direct advertising and such). Pretty much anybody with a dispatcher is a driver on a lease which is a different environment.
Many, if not most, leased transporters are non-CDL (not class A) and are limited to 26,000 lbs. GCVWR. Any dual rear wheel truck is going to limit the units available to the driver to deliver. In that respect, the F350 single rear wheel is the best choice. I used to see a lot of hacked up raggedy Rams, a lot of SRW F350s, some F450s and a smattering of GMCs. Virtually no Chevy trucks were ever in evidence.
Many CDL drivers I knew drove MDTs and pulled a trailer to carry three plus one travel trailers. A CDL driver with an F450 would get a lot of pressure to pull the heaviest of the fifth wheels which increased wear and tear on the truck for not a lot more money.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. Enjoy that amazing McDonalds burger as I've been told their #1.

Funny, I just watched a Tow Piglet video on this topic earlier today. He seemed to gravitate toward Cummins because it's an I-6, which means it's easier to do work on yourself. He was saying that doing your own maintenance is key to making money. But, in the same video he had just dumped $10k into a repair on his Cummins with less than 200k on the clock. So it was kind of confusing. The Ford almost never has major issues. Even CP4 failures are less common on those vs. the 19/20 Cummins trucks. I've seen countless people with 400k or more on a 17+ Power Stroke and zero issues. Don't know hardly anyone with that many miles on a Ram without repairs.

I have a cousin who's actually wanting to start a hot shot business and he's trying to talk me into getting into it with him. He's been doing a lot of research to try and figure out what trucks to get to start out. There's a lot to think about. It's almost mind boggling when you start trying to run numbers on everything. Admittedly a lot of it is assumption. No truck is perfect an any can break down.

From my experience the way to make money was to sleep in my truck and eat cheap food from WalMart. I was driving about 10,000 miles per month and didn't have the time to change my own oil and filters. At the time, Ford had a credit card with six months no interest. I used that to pay for maintenance and tires and made a $300.00 per month payment on the card. Average cost of oil and all filters (including air) was about 300 bucks give or take.
In reality, the best way to make money is to have a truck that doesn't break down. Anytime you have to put your truck in the shop (either your own or another) you are spending money for the repair and losing money while not pulling. Eating and sleeping for cheap are steps to maximize your profit (or minimize your expenses).
I'd recommend your cousin consider the F450 XLT for hotshot work.

Ram Vs. Ford vs. GM

Everyone knows the Tundra is king, their 1/2 ton out performs all HDs

#END_THREAD
It's funny to see the "quality" argument and think back to when I was looking to move away from GM. I narrowed it down to Ram and Toyota, and settled on Ram because I think they make the best half tons available.

The Toyota Loyalists used to talk about things like tight door panels on their old ass trucks...too funny how that went down and what I saw in this conversation.

I used to make way too much money fixing fords would not own one for personal use ever again. I have a 2015 f250 for my shop truck only because i bought the plow that has the Ford scrap attached to it. Soon i am likely going to be removing the ford issues and dropping a 12V and zf6 speed stick in to it so the truck will be reliable….

All are overly complicated, emission and electronically doomed to the scrapyard eventually pieces o’ junk nowadays. IMO
They will only get worse, IMO.
