Question for you smart people about MDS

2025 2500 hemi here.... you definatley have them. As other have said they are on your steering wheel and they are the +/- sign and look like this.

When turning it on, push the + sign till you get to the number 8 (for 8th gear max) and the gears will display on your cluster,. Once you see it, it means your gear selector is activated and your MDS is Deactivated.

If your driving and forget, just push the up sign once and it will display whatever gear you are currently in, however be sure to push + again until you hit 8. Otherwise whatever gear is displayed it will not pass that.

Am I the only one who liked the eTorque 48v implementation in my 1500? Never had a single issue with it in 5 years i had my 2019. Far and away the best implementation of any start/stop tech I've had the (dis)pleasure of using, and a huge part of that was not using a conventional starter. Would have been fine if my 2500 came w/ eTQ (though I wouldn't have wanted to add another $2500 to the price or whatever).
In my opinion, yes. When I decided on a 1500, two things I didn't want to live with, e-torq and a 12" screen. I liked my 2021 1500 5.7, I just prefer towing with the 2500.

This may be known already to OP, but you can disable the MDS by pressing the gear limit "-" minus sign once, and then press the "+" until it shows the max gear in your dash as "8." you have to do each time you start the truck, but will disable MDS if you desire
Thanks Dude, this will make highway cruising so much nicer! I tried it and got a message that it was turned off. Love learning on this Forum!

A message stating the MDS was turned off? I’ve never seen that, just the ECO light disappearing and the truck suddenly running as it should.

Can you show what message that is and where? Ive never seen or heard a message that tells you its deactivated.

I can take a picture tomorrow morning for all of you. I'll be honest it appears quickly and then goes off so it may be a blurry pic.

FWIW, and not to re-start a new MDS discussion, but ... don't disable it all the time. It's a mechanism that is meant to operate, AFAIK there aren't too many MDS failures on 6.4's if well maintained meaning oil changed on schedule. There is some evidence that disabling MDS all the time can cause it to fail sooner. I tend to disable it for local driving when I don't want it jumping in and out of eco mode, but for much/most of my distance driving I leave it enabled. The little added vibration doesn't bother me and I figure I better keep the mechanism operating regularly.

Here's a picture of the message in the evic when you diesel the MDS. View attachment 89861
Thats not telling you MDS is deactivated. Thats telling you the ERS mode is engaged (ERS = Electronic Range Selection, exactly what it sounds like, your selecting your gear range.) However once gear is selected its deactivated. Theres no message and you want "know", in other words it wont be displayed., however as we have all stated....it DOES deactivate MDS.

Also.... Tow/Haul mode deactivates it as well I believe.

Yes, but it doesn't allow the MDS to come on
Correct, but hes just letting you know thats what that message means, its not telling you "MDS Deactivated".

Other than gear limiter and tow/haul mode, there is no other way you could disable it. Its the same as a 1500 with those 2 options.
