Dealers are full of it. I've had several tell me I can't order or what I want is a rare truck and hard to get.
I have a 75th PW in Delmonico red on order for $750. over invoice. Expected to be here by end of the month.
So basically they don't want to do any work to earn your money.
I originally was looking at the new TRX. local dealer here in SOCAL said here's what I have. $50K over MSRP. what color you want? Black or White? I told him neither, I wanted Blue. He kept saying you can have Black or White. I said then I'll order blue. He aid can't order it, can't get it. You want Black or White.
I walked away. Got home and found 40 Blue TRX's available on True car and several different dealers. Found a dealer in NORCAL that would order me one for MSRP. But it was still more money than I wanted to pay. So I found a local dealer next town over who ordered the PW the way I wanted it. Told him I paid $500 over invoice for my last 2 trucks. He comes back and says "how about $750 over invoice" I said deal. Then asked if I could get my military discount. He said yes. So now its $250 over invoice. Working to see if I can find any other incentives.

Guess they don't want to sell a truck.

Has anyone had luck getting an order number submitted for a 3500 build? I just got a call saying that the factory is not accepting orders for 21 and they are moving to 22.

Mark Dodge told me the same thing. Ram has closed ordering of the '21 while they switch over to the '22 model year. The rep I spoke with said it may take about 30 days before ordering is back open.

Did they clarify if they'll take a break on '21 orders for 30 days and then open '21 orders back up? I'm holding out to see what's added to the '22 lineup so anxiously waiting for details to come out on '22s and the order window to open on those. I expect it'll be fall or possibly even later given the chip shortages.

'21 orders are no longer available. Only '22 orders will be taken from now on. No new changes to the '22 model year. Trailer tag and blind spot monitoring is still not available to order unless you're getting a Limited or 1 other model, I forget which one.

I'm amazed by the number of dealers in the northeast Oklahoma area that refuse to come off MSRP for a built order. I had one quote me 5% over "Because RAM isn't building custom orders right now due to parts shortages and we'd have to convince the factory to build it the way you want it." Looks like I'll ultimately have to go with Koons or Mark Dodge and make a road trip. I get it, there's a parts shortage and others are willing to pay near MSRP but I'm a low effort sale; I know what I want, have financing already and am familiar with the process. You'll make some money off me, it won't be your house payment though.

I can't wait for direct-to-consumer car sales.

Exact same spec truck was $200 more than Mark Dodge, but they had a $900 dealer BS charge to Mark's $216. Aaron at Mark Dodge happily was able to take my order and enter it.

Yeah, Mark Dodge gave me a slightly better deal and are considerably closer. They'll get my business. I told the dealers around me that I was going to politely decline their "deals" and accept an offer from out of state. I'm excited to get this truck ordered once ordering is back open for '22s.

One positive from the chip shortage is that my 1500's trade value is consistently climbing week over week. I was at $43k from carmax 2 weeks ago. Today they quoted me $46.6k.

You have to register within 20 days for a new car brought from out of state

And they get you with a new residence fee for the vehicle because you didnt buy it here. And with a truck, they usually make you get it weighed since all trucks are considered commercial unless you attach a permanent camper shell and do the paperwork. If you do, then dont get caught with the camper off or hauling anything.
They may even make you get it smogged, even though it's a new truck.

Lasher Ram in Elk Grove are discounting their HD’s $3500 off MSRP. Just bought a 2500 from them last weekend.

I confirmed with my dealer, on 5/8, that my 2021 order was accepted on 5/7. My 2500 Tradesman was ordered with trailer tag and BSM too.

So is ordering any 2021 completely shut down now? If so, I am going to be pissed. Have a deal put together and was supposed to pull the trigger yesterday but the dealer was "to busy" to get me a final number and kept apologizing.

Just talked to a dealer that said they can still process orders and was willing to match so I am thinking about pulling the trigger. Crazy times.
