Price negotiated from MSRP

First post, thanks to all of those above who helped me, wanted to try to help out someone else.

7/21/2020 deal:

2020 3500 Longhorn Megacab SRW Cummins SO
MSRP $82.1K
Discounts/Rebates of $11.3K
+ $2K over what any of the 10+ other dealership would for my trade, so I am counting as a discount.
Effectively I paid $68.7K + TTYL or ~16.3% off sticker

Also got their "dealer protection package" which was "mandatory" thrown in. Wasn't doing the deal if I had to pay for that which I basically view as a tax. They were asking almost 2K for it.

While I know some above have got better deals, this one has literally every option I wanted and none that I didn't, including both the interior/exterior color combo so I'm pretty happy with this deal.
You got a great deal.
The "dealer protection package" is the frosting on the cake and you got the truck you wanted.

Question for those of you that ordered your trucks. If you have a trade in, do you work that out at the time you put your deposit down or once your truck is delivered? Reason I ask is I see the used car values increasing now and wondering if I can lock a trade in price with the dealer now or if I am at mercy of the market months down the road when the new truck is delivered?

If you "locked in" that trade in price, they would want to take the trade in at that moment. You'd essentially be selling them your car right when you negotiate a price.

Ok, that's good to know. I wasn't sure if they would take my trade in off my hands at the time I work it into the deal.

And to think, when all this started, they had the gull to quote me 7k less in may than they did in March. I held on to mine, and glad I have. Seems fca needs to work on many bugs. Hate to say it but if fca doesn’t get on the stick with more gears, I maybe forced into a ford. 2022 is my target model year at this point.

Depends on the dealer. Some have worked trade deals on order with stipulations that the trade comes back in the same condition with only xxx miles added to the clock.

Then again, some of those same dealers were then backpedaling due to depressed used prices during the midst of COIVD-19.

The other side of the coin is, are you willing to abide by an agreed upon trade value when it becomes due and values are possibly up?

I sold my truck private and made bank as it wasn't worth much to the dealer being an 04.5. For the right buyer, it was worth its weight in gold being a low mileage pre-emissions truck.

This is what I am finding as well. Kids around here go googley eyes Over anything pre emissions. May possibly unload my 2nd gen shortly to one such love stricken young-n! LOL!

Any suggestions for Florida dealers that play ball? I'm looking to price up a truck at a few locations. My local dealers dont have a reputation for negotiating.

Yes, do your own price checking/ investigation countrywide. Have the figure you want in your head with your terms, lowball them

So I called up a dealer today to inquire about ordering a 2020 Ram 2500. They told me I can still order one but I can also still order a 2019 and take advantage of the 2019 incentives. Sounds odd to me, but I guess what would be the downside to that if true?

Depends on what you want. For instance, no 50 gal tank available on the 2019.
Suggest you go on Rams truck site and build your 2019, then build a 2020. Compare the differences in price and how equipped. Then you will know if a 2019 is viable for you. Then find out just what the dealer is offering in incentives. If they are still offering 0% financing that's a great deal.

I just ordered a 2020 Ram 2500 Bighorn the other week, here is how I made out. The rebate is figured in.
Thoughts.

^^^^^ That's an 8.6% discount - you did good.
Plus you are entitled to any incentives/rebates in place when it is delivered.

So I thought it seemed a little odd that I could still build one, but the manager of the dealer confirmed I cannot order a 2019. My salesman just has no clue. Just going to be patient and see if incentives pick up towards the fall.

After years of buying cars and trucks loaded with toys and some not, I have decided that half the stuff on these vehicles is overpriced, useless junk. With today’s smartphones, no need for the tech stuff in autos. That said, I love the longhorn trim, but I think it’s crazy to spend $$$$$’s more on the options list when the base vehicle is around 10k more to start. My mind could change, but I am getting tighter with my money the older I get. I would be pushing hard for minimum 12.5% and some dealer add on freebies, at the least.
BOTTOM LINE: if the deal is good to you, and you feel good about it, GO FOR IT! Your money, your choices.

Rebates are a no brainer, they are either there or they are not - you own them, the dealer has to declare them. On the other hand, anyone who can negotiate to the EP price has truly got the best deal available. Nice negotiating.
