Price negotiated from MSRP

Just joined today after putting a refundable deposit on a 2500 cc Laramie (night package, Hemi)in Virginia. Wish I had seen this thread before I went down that road but there’s time still. My situation is different in that this truck is on the lot vs. most on here ordering from Sandie it appears.

The truck arrived this week. Sticker is $71k and I got them to throw in running boards, spray in bed liner, and reverse tires to hide the white lettering for free. from my discussions with people around here nobody is doing anything off MSRP because they don’t have any vehicles. Sellers market for everyone including me who just sold a truck.

Am I correct in thinking there isn’t anything to negotiate if it’s a vehicle on the lot? What are you all seeing in your area for trucks on the lot.
I'll throw my opinion at ya... But I'm assuming by what you said that you've paid the deposit and ordered at sticker (-) the agreed extras.
You've unfortunately squandered your bargaining position. When I say that I mean in the dealer's perspective. Ordered vehicles seem to be treated as a "sold" allocation, therfore allowing them to, for instance, order another lot unit that they may not have been able to relative to their purchasing power with manufacturer.
Those "throw in's" were cheap deal closing offerings vs having to sell an on-hand unit that tied up purchase credit (or allocation) while costing brick and mortar overhead.
Can you still negotiate, yes, are they less inclined to relent, also yes... IMHO

Edit... If I may recommend mindset when going to pick up / negotiate....
If you're unhappy with price (net) then negotiate... But be prepared to leave and importantly ensure they know that.
If you're happy... Then smile and enjoy your new rig.

My experience is a bit dated (October 2021), but here it is for what it's worth.

I attempted to negotiate a lower price on 3 vehicles (3500s) within a 250 mile radius (N. Alabama). Two of them were priced at MSRP and one had around $1300 in additional dealer mark-up for junk (nitrogen tire fill, front window tint, etc.). One dealer (near Nashville) offered to sell me a tonneau cover at cost, but wouldn't move off MSRP. The other one at MSRP stopped communicating after I asked for a discount. The one with the additional mark-up came down to MSRP. I didn't need the truck right away, so I ordered with Mark Dodge, saved 12%, and got exactly what I wanted.

Thanks for the info. I ended up using Rob at Tuttle Click and he was great to work with.I received about the same discount. I live in Washington state so it's easier to fly down and pick it up. I will say that Mark Dodge does have some of the best pricing and they are too great to work with but when you add the shipping it came to about the same and driving it back would have taken me too long.
Tuttle Click!
Awesome, I grew up a couple miles from there!

Not that it is the same, but trying to purchase an infiniti suv for the wife and I have gotten no where. Hard to find on the lot, one dealer wanted MSRP, but came in 20% below trade value, when I said I would sell and do it without the trade, they refused and said I had to have a trade to get that price. The other wanted $13k in "market adjustment". They said they may be able to reduce to $5k as if that were doing me a huge favor.

Two other dealers have neglected to respond when asked directly if they were adding a markup. Again, not an HD Ram, but I think it's the general state of the auto industry right now.

our local chevy dealer is selling Tahoes/Yukons at sticker to anyone in state, $5k markup for out of state buyers and $10k markup for buyers in Dallas...said they check the market the buyer is from before pricing...unreal

I live in Phoenix, I tried to buy a 2500 from Sahara Chrysler in early January and when they found out I did not live in Las Vegas they would not sell it to me. Strange times.

When it’s time to pay and I want to get all the discounts I can I gather I should ask for a POC showing all incentives to see which ones I can claim. Just wanted to ask if it’s my zipcode or the dealers and if I had to wait until then or is there another way to figure it all out and pre plan pre register for anything I might need? Already tread lightly and got a true car and PenFed just in case

Just curious - I got a coupon emailed to me twice, both offering $2k private cash to ”order or take delivery of a new RAM brand vehicle”. The first email came the day after I placed my order, and the second a month later. Timing for an order is right, but do they need that redemption code when the order is placed?

Anyone know if that redemption code will be able to be redeemed when I make my purchase in the next couple of weeks? Thanks for any insight!
Interesting - the same happened to me (a little under ~$2K but the first email was the day after I placed my order, too!). I forwarded to my salesman and asked them whether they could apply it. Took about a week but he did get back to me that they had attached to my purchase. Now just waiting for the truck to arrive and finalize the purchase to ensure I do get it credited.

I'm in WV, ordered a truck in VA. I really wish I'd found this thread before I ordered mine about a month ago. Ram 3500 bighorn. HO diesel, with some extras. out the door price they gave me was $80,080. what does a dealership usually make on an order? Seeing what some of ya'll were quoted... I think I'm getting bent over on that price. I think I'll contact MD and see what they have to say.

Gregor,
Not sure what type of deposit you put down but if it was $500 non-refundable, I would run from that deal, getting the screws big time on that deal. I used Miles @ Dan Cummins in Georgetown, Kentucky (closer to you) and got a 3500 Limited 6.7HO with about every stinkin option out there for $85k (stickered 100K), OTD after cash offers with taxes at $87kish.

Do a search for Miles, great response times, patient (I changed up like 4 times), and he clearly outlines the pricing before you commit. His email is [email protected]

I hope to pick mine up in about a week......ordered on 12/29.

Either this is sanctioned by GM and if so shame on them... Or not and shame on that dealer and GM should take action. That type of discriminatory market manipulation should earn a boycott..

What have they got against buyers in Dallas??!

Supposedly the mark up is more down there...agree it doesn't really sound on the up and up but its almost the exception for the dealer to NOT be doing something like this. I called/emailed probably on 30 or more different in transit one over a month period....all out of state, and only one or two dealers would have been willing to sell to me at sticker...Think the lowest markup I ran into was $4k. Had one bought from a dealer in Tulsa at sticker that only had a $1500 add on of nitrogen/tint/etc - but when he sent the paperwork it had another $5k adjustment. Called him back and he said he was just doing what the manager told him to do....

So it could be a lot worse - at least most on here are buying at a significant discount. Imagine ordering at sticker or $5k over and the order not even being accepted by GM...horror stories on those forums

Not that people are waiting to hear but I bailed on the deal. Will keep looking. Appreciate the input from all.

Didn't bail... You re-evaluated your bargaining position :p
Fwiw, good on ya. You'll find the deal that makes ALL the sense with patience.
Looking forward for updates.

Dan Cummins did away with the 4% under invoice offer back in January.

I've been shopping around preparing to make my order on a 2500. I emailed with Andrea @ Chapman in AZ and she informed me they were 1% under MSRP with a control number. Seems like they are off the list of good deal dealerships. Granger did come in competitive with Sandi w/ Mark Dodge.

Chapman in Horsham PA is the one with the deals. 1% under invoice can be had anywhere that accepts the supplier discount.
