Oh hell no. I was walking by my truck in the dark and saw something lit up on my dash. It says “press brake and push button to start”. It’s dark and 20 out, so I disconnected the batteries. Not looking forward to waking up to this. I hope it’s a weak key fob or a brake switch…. Has this happened to anyone else? I just replaced a battery yesterday and it ran fine. Yes I only replaced one since they only had one in stock and the other passed their load test.

Was the key fob in your pocket? Truck locked or unlocked?

The push to start would not go away no matter what. I tried to start it and it cranked plenty fast but did not start, plus it bypassed the grid heater. I disconnected the batteries since it was too dark to work on it last night. Re-connected this morning, same issue. Thought maybe a reboot would fix it. I tried to start it 3 times this morning. On the third try, after it wouldn’t start I tapped the key button and it actually started but bypassed the grid heater again. I also noticed that my heat, heated seats, heated steering wheel also don’t work

Lots of accessories take time to be recognized after the battery is disconnected, basically the trucks computers don’t like the lack of power.

What’s the ambient temp?

35 degrees. I changed the batteries quickly the day before yesterday. It’s started right up and everything worked. Now I got nothing but rapid cranking, no start at all

I think I might have found the issue, I sure hope so. After checking fuses and tracing lots of wires, I found a loose ground wire nut on the front inner fender near the fuse box. After tightening it, it started and seems to be okay. I’m going to let it run, recharge the batteries all the way, shut it off, retest both when hot and cold. These trucks are getting way too complicated. Sometimes I miss my 2001

Pepperidge Farm Remembers.

In the past, several of us shouted from the rooftops, "Push in all your fuses and check the grounds!"

Seems lately, it's boiled down to just "Push in all your fuses!" and the "check your grounds" part gets left behind.

Check your grounds...

it’s running fine now but: new problems…. Heat controls only go to “lo” or “hi” with no numbers in between! My screen background changed from red to blue ugh

You were right on the money about that. I could not adjust the heat temperature until an hour of driving and 2 stops. Now everything is completely back to normal. I do love this truck but I think back to how simple my 01’ was with a 318, the same motor I had in my 73’ coronet

I have had this happen a few times. I think there is a software glitch somewhere. I've watched from inside the house where the dash still is lit up with the start up message. What I've done to fix it was unlocked it with the fob, got in and turned the ignition on long enough that the gauges are shown. Then turn off the ignition and exit as normal. Lock when the door is shut. The message usuallyt goes away within seconds after this. Once in a while I'll peek out the window at night to see what its doing. Has anyone had their truck updated at the dealer to fix this or similar issue? I thought these would update over the air, but I haven't seen any evidence of this.
