That thing is cool. But not $269 cool. I could buy the material and a new router and have some fun for less.

I've seen those for Tacoma's and never looked into them for the RAM, but was just thinking on my last trip that I should get one! For that money though I will hold off for a bit haha.

We are heading to the forest this weekend. My kit isnt as spectacular as yours...but man I love allowing my RAM to take us away from civilization and enjoy nature.

I have been thinking about some more permanent motorized camping setup...and I do have 2 other trucks I could make dedicated to the task...but am curious how your setup interferes with other truck duty...is it easy to remove...or have you passed the point of ni return and this is now its task.

I can tell you havent had any 1500 issues with the Powerwagon...still glad you made rhe upgrade?

DD,

Hope you're doing well.

I'm sure you're having a great time with your setup. None of this stuff I'm slapping on my truck is a requirement for my outdoor activities. Where it comes into play is that it saves time when setting up and tearing down your site. My idea for the rack was to mount items on it that would not be taken on/off with any frequency.

It would be easy to remove the rack and accessories, but maybe a little time consuming. If I had to remove it so I could haul large items in the bed I would probably just remove the water, gas, and propane from the top. Then unbolt the rack from the rack legs. Then lift the rack off while leaving the rack legs bolted to the bed.

If you have two people you could probably leave the accessories on the rack and lift the whole thing off. You would probably still want to make sure the water/gas cans were empty though.

I'm very glad I made the upgrade from the 5th gen 1500. I've ran that hill multiple times that caused my 1500 to overheat the transfer case and in the PW and it doesn't even hesitate. The only draw back is interior space and MPG.

EDIT: just saw your other post about the pully systems. That's a great idea and something I will invest in later!

We can only camp at designated sites here. They all have a picnic table and a fire pit.

So, I basically have everything you have and take it in and out at every trip. But I was thinking...some of the sites you can drive the truck right in and it would be great to just have everything mounted like you do setup and enjoy.

Problem currently is the wife and daughter always want to go do something else.

But if it was me and the boy...the setup would work great.

Glad to hear the hill is not an issue.

While I was getting our camping stuff ready last evening I was contemplating taking our kayaks..and thought damn the system I use to take them up to the rafters would work great for removing the rack setup @AnthonyD1978 showcased for us.

Good times

I like my half height rack because it helps keep the center of gravity low and is not up in the wind when I'm on the interstates here (75mph speed limit here in AZ). So that's another thing to consider when shopping for racks.
