I have seen a few nice builds posted on here and wanted to post mine. It hasn’t been a lot but it might evolve as time goes on. Sorry it’s a story book just thought someone might like a little story from time to time. As I do with some of the other builds on this and a few other forums I visit.

Starting at the beginning. I have always loved Jeeps, dodge rams, and cool cars. When I was young we traveled from Oregon to Iowa. It was during tornado season in red dodge, just like the one on twister the movie. We watched the movie just before we made the trip. Well it made for a fun trip. Mom would freak out at anything that looked like a storm chasing vehicle. “No mom that’s a septic service truck.”
Then we owned a black 97 jeep wrangler growing up. I then found out about the rubicon jeep and how it had lockers and such in 2003. It was then my dream jeep. Couldn’t afford it as I just graduated high school. But then I learned about the new Ram Power Wagon in 2005, I was hooked. It could tow, drive long distances comfortably. Best of all it could get you where ever you wanted to go,(if not by true wheel drive, then by its good friend warn). As the years passed I had helped a few people find their dream power wagons. But it wasn’t my turn yet. I had to make do with Jeep Cherokees/ Comanche, and the wife’s 07 Grand Cherokee SRT8. If we needed to tow big things I would have to borrow/swap the wifes SRT with either the fathers 07 white mega cab 2500 hemi 4x4 or the father in laws blue Chevy Silverado 1500. 2A22FC01-5EBD-413A-BA30-9F0A4DA6FF28.jpegThe green Cherokee was mine at the time a 1992 Laredo. My dad owned the yellow 1990 Laredo. I built my wife the blue 1969 IH Scout 800 with 304. Eventually we sold the Scout and green Cherokee and I bought the yellow jeep. 9380625B-04AC-4B47-93DC-2DA6E465CBDE.jpegThen we moved and sold our house. It was time to buy a truck. My wife is a very good driver and she did a bunch of towing with my fathers ram. She was skeptical about the stiffer riding compared to her fathers Chevy. So when I told her what I was looking for she wasn’t sure. She liked the idea that we could recover our play toys on the sand or snow and not have as much worry as with standard non lockable 4x4 trucks.

Once she was convinced I went on the hunt. I new I wanted the 8speed so that limits the number of available. With the used prices with in 1k of new (on there builder and quoted) a few months before the physical search began. There were 5 trucks in a 500 mile radius of our house. 2 of those were on those sign up they drop off at your house, I wasn’t in to that. So that left three. We seen a nice used silver one in Vancouver Washington, a red New one near Portland and a plain white one in Hillsboro. As we lived near Salem we decided drive to the silver one. Then work our way home and see if she even likes the style of truck. I know it’s my truck but we make our big decisions together, (happy wife happy life). Also I wanted to see what options we like and don’t before we order ours.

It was pouring rain out side and per the business covid rules, one driver only so I took the truck out to see how it did. The limited slip, four link and traction control did good, keeping it pointed the right way. I pushed it on the few mile test loop. With the pot holes and standing water on the on ramp for the highway it did good. When I got back to the dealer I knew this truck wasn’t for me. It looked like some one bought it and road it hard then put it away wet. They just sawzalled the resonator off. The engine bay looked like some one parked it nose first into a pond. The axle tubes looked like they were drug a crossed a rock garden.
We both wanted vinyl flooring and at least heated seats. I did like the amp steps. So we moved on and got lunch. Then drove to the Portland one. It was on the show room floor so no test driving. But we got to have a good look at the truck in the dry. It was loaded like a level 3. 12” screen, center console (5seats). 360 cameras, leather, heated only, seats. The lady came with the fob so we could see the cameras and hear the HK stereo. But apparently due to chip shortages neither worked. Then we sat down with one of there managers and talked about ordering a truck. Apparently in two months the out the door sales price had jumped almost 10k for the same build as the one I saved on my phone 5 days earlier. Also I would have to wait for it to be built and wait for the chip and bring it back and wait for them to swap that in. But for the right truck it would be ok. I told myself as we had other daily drivers. The other dealer ship with the silver one said the same thing but we didn’t price it, it was just talk.
We left and the wife said she didn’t want the 12” screen, or a full console having seats for six was better. She didn’t like the push button 4x4. She wanted a shifter so she knows it shifts, I agreed. She did like the leather seats better than the treaded seats. She didn’t like the carpeted floor mats. She said “we would need to get good rubber mats for the truck. Why do they need the big power wagon sticker on the bed.” Lol. We also talked about the price of a new truck.

We drove to the third lot and pulled in. A salesperson came out in the pouring rain and met us at our jeep. He introduced himself and asked what he could help us with. I told him I was here to see the Power Wagons they had. He said they didn’t have any on the lot to his knowledge. I pointed at the white truck with a canopy and said I believe that one is listed as one. F9D39DB9-D085-4315-AB85-7B878C31DC3D.jpegSo he ran to the truck got the numbers and ran in for the key. A minute later he opened the door and on the seat it read Power Wagon. They didn’t have any photos other than the out side on the search engine I used. We looked around it and it was a level 2 truck. It had leather heated and cooled seats, manual 4x4 shifter, vinyl flooring, ram floor mats that were coverd in armor all (they were slick as snot). This lot let us all go on the ride so I told the wife you drive. So she did. She loved it. She said it felt like a tank but it was stable smooth over bumps, not too stiff, and had good get up and go.

A massive storm started to come in so we went back, got the info and drove home. That night we talked and other then three things that we could live with out ,360 cameras, HK stereo, and the hydro blue color it had everything we wanted. It looked well taken care of. It was used with 30k miles on it but they had almost new 315/70r17 falken wild peak at3w tires, a color matched canopy and found out it had adaptive cruise control, no lane keep, Thank goodness. So we talked and the price was lower then we had planned on spending for the new truck by 8k so with a complete service records at this dealer, the same one that sold it new.

On November 10th 2021 We pulled the trigger on a 2019 Ram Power Wagon in bright white.

Again sorry for the long intro.

Well we got it home and I went over it with a fine tooth comb. Other than a few things it was almost new. So we put it to work towing things. 182ACA84-E226-4A9A-BDD4-1B6A93B2C278.jpeg
On first tow I had to take this picture. Those who know will get it.:)0033AED3-E22F-43E5-979E-BB64CDE53E76.jpeg
The canopy/topper/cap had a leer locker in it so I used it to hold some gear. I also got a stall mat for the floor. Installed my fire extinguisher. Using the factory rear passenger corner d ring a nut cert, a bolt, a piece of 2x2 angle aluminum and a bungee cord. I have a pull tie on the metal S hooks, so you just pull the Hooks pull out and is free. As it sits the hose I near the tail gate so the dog can’t get to it. Mine don’t chew but sometimes he has friends along. Then I have some gear the hitch, few planks wood, for jack base as they never seem to lift high enough when you need it, in the crates.

As mentioned earlier a few things I needed to fix. The canopy third brake light was leaking, the canopy light wasn’t wired in, the electric canopy lock wasn’t wired in. Also I wanted to wire a in-bed 7pin plug-in. I did some research and found out that the 2019 with their electric button release doesn’t even get a lock signal. It just won’t sent the signal to the bed latches to unlatch. So I had to trace down wires in the driver side kick panel to tie into the back cab door lock wires to lock and unlock the canopy. It workes flawlessly. Both canopy place and forums said same thing so I did it.
Then the third brake light appears that the seal, as it is an older used unit, dried up so I replaced it. The canopy didn’t come with any hard keys so I got a local lock shop to build me a set. Then using an etrailer harness and plug designed for in bed plugs I went to install and I found this mess. 4F110BA2-1E30-42C8-AC6F-8E0C8C29C0AF.jpeg
This whole mess thank goodness it’s just plugged in between the bumper plug and harness, was for the third brake light. So I did some investigating and found the white and I believe purple striped wire above the spair tire crank cross-member on the passenger side of center. I attached that for the third brake light. I drilled, mounted and installed my bed 7pin plug. It just plugged in between the harness and bumper plug, as the mess above did before. The canopy dome light now needed to be wired. I know I would like more light than the small one it had so I used six smaller led lights and mounted them to the Leer locker rails. Wiring them into the leer canopy’s fuse box. To power the led lights, I tapped into the factory bed light wires. Located in the back driver rear corner under the bed. I tapped the switch side of the plug so it wasn’t tapping into the truck harness. There have been a few posts on here that I can’t find the links I had anywhere (new phone), that have helped in finding this info so thank you all who share info.

Did lots more towing and playing.

Towed good don’t really know the side by side and quads were even there.

Next good trip, took wife and dog on a weekend on the other side of the state. Sun river Oregon with trips all around there. Here is stop for a walk at Crane Prairie reservoir.

The wife loved the heated seats and how comfortable the truck drove over. She was surprised how on rough and washed out roads even through snow and ice it still was comfortable and seemed to not care.
Lol Power Wagon don’t Care.

Got my license plates, so I made a mount with some nut certs in the factory plate holes. With a weather tech plate cover it’s installed. Two Allan head and it’s off not bad hidden winch. Eventually mount a hinge just haven’t found the right one yet. We have had a bad spree of people cutting the winch ropes on Jeeps and trucks and even taking the hooks. So it being hidden is a little nice out of sight out of mind. It also helps with sun on the rope.

First “snow” trip to upper Nestucca area, December 19, 2021
It didn’t miss a beat. Took it on some less used logging roads and found a play pit for family fun. Helped a few people out with a little digging and a tug. No photos of that but was cold, snowing and sun down in less than an hour. So get it done and go home. Been up there with Jeeps and it’s a bit of a tight squeeze and you have to plan for wide turns as you go around corners but no problems. A few branches rubbed the side. ;)

We found the deep stuff. So did a few younger kids with their snow trucks a Toyota, a Mazda, and another ford ranger lol.
We found a wide spot made a camp, let kids and dogs play. We made a fire and watched the 4x4 crews roll in and go above. Most had to turn around as it got too deep. We played and watched then we left later that day, beautiful, cold, nature. That day I had my pressures at 55psi to avoid the tire pressure light. No airing down the truck did awesome. I love these wild peaks they do great. There were several more trips in the snow and ice and no airing down. Good to know, good traction full, should be great traction aired down. Yes I know, at 8k-ish pounds its not going to do what a small jeep will, so that’s why I have one of them to.

I ordered back in December of 2021 an AEV procal snap, so I could adjust for tires and lower the tpms. I installed the pro cal, removed the plastic bumper skirt. I can see how that would work on a lower 2500 like a 2x4 with lower suspension it pushes the air down and under the front axle and around the tires. But with our hight the air is running right into the axle no mater if you wear the skirt or not. So off it came. I got a new hitch and a 10k car trailer for hauling the jeep and toys around. It squats a little but once you get down a little it holds just fine. Future plans air bags but it has no problems with the loads I haul. My daughter said while watching tv that my truck is like PO the panda from Kung Fu Panda. It’s large, big, round, black and white. It isn’t a race car, just lumbers along, it’s not a heavy duty tow rig, but it will go anywhere, and it does it in its own way, and what can do, it can’t be beaten. So it’s name is PO

So the trip to Florence went well tows good no issues. I set my adaptive cruse behind my father in law as he drives good and responsible so we just cruised. Once there I helped pull rigs and trailers to the camp sight out by the flats. Not meany photos but did lots of riding and sxs driving. PO did good helped pull a Silverado that had went through a water puddle with a cold ram intake and hydrolocked his engine. It was late and they were in the middle of the riding area so I pulled his rig to the parking lot and helped get him a tow truck to town. I also helped pull a motor home for my wife’s uncle to and from the camp sight. I have the right pull recover and a large kenetic rope. Works good. Here is a photo of the PW in action going up the hill from my dads rubicon.

I pulled a little far forward it tows ok but I moved it back about half a foot and she leveled out more. The problem is I told family and friends I can do this and well PO the tow pig was born. Used to help fix a few rigs. 3B88CBD0-5B20-4D69-8D35-E07D90E053C3.jpeg

My future plans are for some sort of rock rails with steps. I need the steps to be at or a bit lower then where the pad is on the stock ram steps for friends family to get in. If they could be rock rails too then good. I want to install on board air when I do my air bags.
Possibly an air horn as well not for a young people but for things like sound location. In sand or such and can’t see you you can signal a regular horn you can’t hear on most bikes/atvs. I would like to do a pair of ditch lights and maybe rock lights. I’m happy with front head lights and the dogs do a decent job but it would be nice to have a pair of lights to do some more side and elevated light. Wonder if anyone has thought of making a mount and finding a set of lights to go into the 2500 plaques on the hood?

Nice pics, thanks for sharing them. I really like the white knuckle rock rails, Frame mounted, so they say you can use them as jack points as well, too much for my needs as I don't plan on rock sliding but I think they look pretty nice. I've seen one report of someone saying they were a bit slick as steps so they put grip tape after the fact IIRC. They have some different options for top plate (the area you would step on).

Thanks for sharing all that. Sure makes the wait for my PW order feel even longer, but that's ok.

I'm really happy with my white Knuckle sliders. I too needed more of a step than most sliders give you, so I order their wide version with full top plates. They work great as steps and still do their "real job". I have quite a few photos of them in my build thread.

Those look like what I had in mind. Quick question, what is the hight to the top of the step to the ground. And so I can do the comparison, what tire size and any lift at time of measurement. They look like they are similar in hight. Thank you.

I just dropped my truck off at the dealership today, so I'll have to get the measurement for you when I get it back tomorrow or later this week. My truck is all stock in the tire and lift department.
