received a perform service message this evening. I've looked around the internet and found that its most likely the CCV needing to be changed. 2019 2500 74500k miles. Checked the info screen for oil filter, fuel filter, and particle filter and all are good. Is there a way I can find out for certain, such as pulling codes?

That’s all that message is used for, and the mileage lines up. Replace the CCV filter and reset the reminder.

I really wish they would change the verbiage on that reminder, it confuses a lot of people but I know they do that so people will take it to a dealer for service. I see multiple posts a day on all the different pages asking what that means.

it would be less alarming if it would at least give a reference to what the issue is.

While I agree that Ram could do a better job with the indication on the dash, the maintenance required is mentioned in the owners manual.

Perform Service Indicator — Diesel Engine Your vehicle will require emissions maintenance at a set interval. To help remind you when this maintenance is due, the instrument cluster will display “Perform Service”. When the “Perform Service” message is displayed on the instrument cluster it is necessary to have the emissions maintenance performed. Emissions maintenance may include replacing the Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) filter element. The procedure for clearing and resetting the “Perform Service” indicator message is located in the appropriate Service Information.

If only people would read that..... That's a bit of a stretch these days.

all 300 pages in 6 point font? If they redesigned the manual to make it readable, more people would read it. Here’s another idea, include a second manual that serves as a quick start guide and maintenance schedule.

The manuals that car makers provide are written by lawyers and engineers, not people who use the products.

There is another flex the manufacturers are making: including digital versions through the infotainment systems. Here’s an idea so crazy it might just work… program the cluster messages to load the relevant manual section in the center display.

If you can read these threads you can read the owners manual.

There is a quick start guide. You’ll never see detailed maintenance procedures in an owners manual again, the dealerships wants your money.

If only… can’t hurt to try and educate people on self education.
I think its 2 main reasons people don't use the manuals. One is sometimes its hard to find specifics in it even with the index and number 2 is because they are a lazy ass like me.:)

I’m just going with number 2. ;)

There is a ton of info in them, but they could also be better. Either way, the info has to be read to be utilized.

In my defense, bought it used with no manual BUT I did download the pdf version from the Mopar ram site. I did search the manual for perform service and did look at the maintenance schedule but saw nothing listed for 75k miles. So I searched the web and also posted here. Found what I needed and fixed the problem. Oh if you think the physical manual is annoying to search through, try the PDF. I have found another level of hades that Dante missed.

Glad you got it serviced.

The key to pdf manuals is the search function and using key words. I prefer the pdf manuals and can usually find stuff faster, plus they are updated as needed.

I tried the search function but still found nothing for the perform service message. Maybe it was my phone or possibly my impatience at that particular time. I also could not find my 8mm deep well socket when I needed it. I did regain my patience after this project was completed by searching for the rest of the sockets that had, while having no involvement in this project, become mysteriously strewn around my garage in a moment that can only described as "tense".

I received this message today, and it quickly disappeared. I only have about 38k miles on my truck. I see nothing in the owner's manual about this message coming up, quickly disappearing, and being related to anything at 38k miles.

Just download the manual and zoom in. Even I can read it at 77.
