Payload issue

So I have a 22 3500 srw short bed Ram Box with rear auto level air ride. I recently purchased a fifth wheel camper that is just a little over the "payload capacity" of my truck. With the trailer hooked up it gives me a air ride adjustment limited to over loaded issue. Switching to a dually isn't an option at this point. I was thinking to add a leaf spring to each side to help with the weight, and upgrade the tires to load range f. Camper itself isn't over the total towing capacity of the truck even if camper is fully loaded to its technical capacity. Has anyone tried this by adding a leaf spring and it solved the minimal overload of the auto level air suspension?

How much over are you? You should have around 3400 payload based on my CCLB @3700.

Can you shift a little weight back without unloading the pin too much? Get something out of the bed?

Are you putting it in ALT Trailer Height?

Can't say on the spring, but wheels/tires/axle should definitely not be overloaded.

How much is a little over? Are you still within the rear axle cap of 7k? If so no need for new rubber

About 600-700 pounds over I didn't try to mess with the Alt trailer height. Once I load stuff into the rear of the toy hauler in theory it should upload the pin a little.

Is that based on the weight the fw manufacturer provided or based on a scale? If it is the number provided, you are likely over more than that.

You must be really heavy, I’ve loaded above the 7K RAWR a couple times and never gotten than message.

You should use ALT ride height thou, as it engages 2 more leaf springs per size and those springs are stiffer than the norm ride height ones. An added spring would be pointless, since you aren’t using Alt ride height.

LRF won’t generally do you any good unless you get better wheels, and many of the LRF tires don’t have much more capacity and are 35” or larger. The LRF just gets you 80 psi in some sizes, but not all.

The suspension you have is the same as the DRW auto-level, so it’s plenty capable. I think your biggest issue is you were in norm and not alt, as that requires a lot more air in the airbags.

You do need to get that weighed thou, as brochure pin weights are often very low compared to real world pin weight… and that’s before you load it up.
