We took our new 26 to Key West and back for a 4000-mile trip. I monitored the PF pretty closely. It went up to 40% over and over the whole trip but, never any higher. I now have 8000 miles, and the PF still hasn't gone above 40% ever. Up till now, I don't expect anything is wrong but, I would like to hear what others are experiencing. Truck runs and performs perfectly.

Normal

.... Coming from a F350, it was totally normal to go to 100%, then down to "0". That's why I question the PF's operational parameters. Mine too, stays at "0" for the longest of time before it registers anything. Thinking it's the better combustion or the atomization of the fuel contributing here.

Do yourself a favor and don't hyper-focus on the DPF gauge. These systems are a reality of these modern diesels and not much you can do about them other than letting the truck "do its thing". If something were to go "wrong" the truck will let you know.

Enjoy your new truck....drive it often, change the fluids, and don't idle it too much.

Ya I hear ya. But…I have a 2022 F250 with 30,000 miles and the engine light went on. Took to dealer and the code indicated too frequent regen. They took it in for further diagnosis and they told me it would take all day. Got a call at the end of the day that my truck was ready. When I got there I asked the service advisor about the problem. Response…don’t know but we have replaced the DPF and sensors under an extended 70,000 mile warranty specifically for the DPF system. $2750 cost to replace. Only information I received from the tech was don’t shut your truck off if it goes into regen. What I have learned is that all diesel manufacturers are having issues with DPF systems and it seems that the most common problem is driving habits. So just drive it and enjoy it may not be the best advice.

Exactly my point. Staring at a gauge does not change driving habits. What are your current total engine and idle hours? How often do you change your oil and filters?

You can turn off your truck during a regen, it will pick up once you start up again. The truck will "warn" you if it is unable to complete a regen due to short-tripping.

I have a 2022 F250

Are we talking about your RAM or your Ford? My free advice was regarding your new RAM.

Idle time 160. Drive time 827.
Oil changes at 11,344, 23,365, 30947. Each at the oil life indicator around 40% or so.

Tech at dealership told me not to shut it off. The same tech who replaced the DPF system.

2022 RAM 2500

20% idle time is not great and I would suggest stepping up your oil changes if you need to idle that much....IMHO

My 2022 is at 9% idle hours, change my oil at 50% on the indicator or once a year which ever comes first. Zero on my DPF gauge and passive regens I hardly notice. YMMV.

For all the 2019+ Rams i have owned I have never watched the DPF screen.

For a "tech" to tell you to never shut your truck off during Regen is crazy town stuff. I would question his credentials.

I daily drive my 3500 DRW - 15 min each way to work... weekend running around town. I tow a 16K 5th wheel 5-6 times a year. I also leave my truck IDLE when I am running in to a store with my wife in the truck, fast food lines, traffic accidents that have backed up traffic, when I remote start....what "driving habits" of the average Cummins owner are bad?? If yo are going to Idle extended periods Cummins recommends turning your HIGH IDLE on.

Your Air Filter can negatively affect your Regens if you are not using one that does not flow to meet he specs the computer is looking for....be sure you use OEM or OEM equivalent air filters.

Stop the OCD and never look at the DPF screen. I had a 2024 Chevy 500 DRW that had no way to view the DPF...why? Because its futile to watch it. I have 375 idle hours and 823 Run hours..... I change my oil at the 15-20% range.

I do appreciate your input. Thanks for taking the time.
