Yesterday I needed to move my truck about 12 or so inches to make some room in front of my garage door. I figured I would just put it in N and push it a bit, no need to start it up for such a fast move. Well, I forgot that these trucks have been "nanny-ed" and you can no longer shift into neutral without starting the truck AND keeping your door closed. This got me thinking... is going through the process of disengaging/reengaging the park override really the only way to move these trucks in neutral? I kind of see the reasoning around that from a legal standpoint, but man is that annoying! Guess I'm just venting and seeing if anyone else has found themselves similarly wondering the same thing, or if there are any alternate shifting techniques out there.

That would be really a bummer if you had to get towed and couldn't start the engine. I checked my owners manual and couldn't find an emergency release.

There is a release strap behind the panel below the headlight switch / above parking brake release.

Thanks. Dang. Did several searches. Never figured it was called “Gear Selector Override”.
Yea, the 6-speed trucks use a manual park pawl cable and you need to release the column shifter aka "gear selector."
The 8-speed are electronic and have the release cable under that panel.

My cable was disconnected near the exhaust manifold when I got it home from the dealer. Double check yours is seated properly.
