My 18 2500 has chrome bumpers. I really like them because they pretty much never get chipped up, etc. We have other vehicles with painted front ends and they always get ugly over the years. Looking at some '22 Limited's and all of them have painted bumpers, so wondering what folks experience is with the Ram painted bumpers. Going to get chipped up over time, or does Ram do something to mitigate that?

I know about applying PPF and have done that in the past. But I'd rather not have to.

I went thru the same process when I Oder my limited longhorn. I went chrome, an don’t regret it one bit. 3 or 4 yrs from now it won’t chip from stones an rust.

Less than 5k miles on my 2022 Laramie and have rock chips on front bumper and dually fenders. Even with large mudflaps and OE suspension/tires. I had 11k miles on my 2019 limited with chrome bumpers with not a scratch on them. I still prefer the look of painted over chrome, but wish I would have gotten a film put on right away.

For what its worth, lots of people want to swap chrome for painted. So if you find the right truck with painted bumpers, it should be fairly easy to find someone with chrome willing to trade you for your painted bumpers.

I think I'm just going to have to order one. After looking at 100's of listings in the last few days, I didn't find one Laramie or Limited with chrome bumper/chrome package. Well, I found one, but it was an 8' bed, which I don't want. Personally, I vastly prefer the chrome package, at least on my black 18 2500. But that's not the only reason I'm going to have to order a truck (Ramboxes with Megacab, which I have now, is very hard to find too), but it is a big one.

I appreciate the input.

I ordered my 2500 mega limited with chrome. I like the looks of the painted, but the way they salt and sand the roads during Michigan winters the painted would never hold up.

Use to be chrome was the expensive option now painted is.. my 99 I ordered with painted bumpers to save money.. the paint on my 21 doesn't have chips but I don't have to dive on many gravel or dirt roads either..

Mine came with painted... I bought a 3500 off the lot this past Monday. I am taking it today and having Graphene done on all of the main impact areas, ceramic coating on the rest of the truck, for these reasons above. I live off of dirt/gravel roads. Driving I-40/I-25 there is a lot of sand and fine gravel that wreaks havoc on painted surfaces. I am hoping that this preventative step will maybe mitigate the damage over time - I doubt it'll prevent it completely but if it helps some, then it's money well spent I suppose.

Hope it helps. That was part of the rub for me too. Here I'd be paying more for an option I don't want, and then having to spend even more to protect it. I get that painted is popular, and that's great. But it's not for everyone.

Ram won't do anything to mitigate this, as where you live plays a massive factor in how bad your rock chips are.

If you're looking at buying a limited, don't be cheap. Do the PPF to the bumper, hood and fenders.

If I had to take a Limited with painted bumpers off a lot somewhere, I'd have to apply the PPF. But if I order a Limited, I can get chrome bumpers (which I prefer) and not have to bother with PPF.
