Order from Washington back to California

Illegal where?

My 2016 2500 had cab lights from the factory. I live in SoCal.
Idk I just read an article online about it

““For example, in California, local regulations require that our single-rear-wheel Sierra HD trucks are not offered with amber roof marker lamps,” a GMC spokesperson told GM Authority.

There's a similar situation with the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD Carhartt Edition (gallery above) because it comes with amber roof lights. Chevy is not selling this special model in California.”

I tied to get AAA to do it but they can't do new vehicle VIN checks. The independent/ mobile ones I called couldn't do it either. I did know of one that could but they were pretty busy. DMV was easier than expected. Didn't need an appointment. I just had to drive up to their drive-thru and get it verified. I ended up having to take a picture of the VIN with my phone cuz the DMV inspector wasn't tall enough to see it. LOL He was a cool guy we chatted about our various Mopar vehicles.
That's good to know. I just can't stand the DMV.

I used a guy named Michael from Vin Verifiers.

Interesting that both examples are Chevrolets. Ram and Ford have no such restrictions.
I searched and found it true. Roof-mounted amber lights on Chevrolets are not allowed in Califunny. You won't believe their reasoning. And, only Chevrolet trucks are mentioned. GMC amber rooftop lights banned in Califunny

Pretty sure the reason is both RAM, and Ford use traditional single marker lights on the roof, which can not be mistaken for anything else. Chevy went for the designer look, which I guess could be misinterpreted (what a stretch) in California only.

Interesting. I looked and there was only one Chevy 2500 with marker lights (Carhartt Edition) within 300 miles of me. I didn't bother going to look at the pics to see if it really had them. The trucks are too dang ugly

A similar bunch of Kali BS: A lot of us desert runners run dust lights facing backward at the rear of the cabs. The dust lights keep everyone much safer when running in dusty conditions. Most run amber lights. We had a guy running a solid blue dust light. He got pulled over while we were running down a wash. They tried to say he was impersonating a law enforcement.

I was wondering if anyone on here from California has had an experience ordering with Bud Clery in Washington state? I saw on the “builds” thread some people saying they were doing the same as me. What’s the regs for bringing the truck here and registering it? I ordered a 3500 HO. Not sure if that matters. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
I was going to order from Dennis Dillon, but I needed a truck right away for our new trailer. I ended up finding a 3500 equipped similar to how I would order in Ontario, Oregon. We flew into Boise on a Friday night, spent the night in a Boise area hotel and the dealer picked us up the next morning, drove across the state line into Oregon and by 0930, I was headed home back to Nor Cal. The dealer collected California sales and and registration fees and sent them overnight to a DMV office close to where I live. Whole process was very easy until I learned all of the BS to get my new truck registered in California. Like others have said, I had to weigh the truck at the scales, have it smogged, and have a VIN inspection. My registration fee was $834 for the year.

I know Dennis Dillon in Idaho sells to people in California as does Dave Smith.
Yes Dennis Dillion sells to people all over the country ! I live in Idaho and have bought 2 trucks and a jeep from them , not only did they beat dave smiths by $1200 on the last pickup but i couldn't find any dealers within 1200 miles that could even come close to there price. Of course if you live 2000 miles away it probably wont save you any with fuel prices but they are worth giving a call that's for sure.

Sounds like a fun headache to deal with thanks to this state. Thanks for all the info, did you just have the dmv do the vin inspection or did you do private party?

I had the VIN inspection at the DMV. You should also be able to get a VIN inspection at your local CHP office.

You can also have a VIN inspection done by a private party... pay a small fee and not have to deal with the DMV hassle.

There are a few extra steps to take when buying out of state if you live in CA, but the savings can very much be worth it. Phil Olson is selling trucks for 12-14% off of MSRP. VERY much worth it.

Im flying my whole family up there in June (hopefully) and road tripping home back to CA.

The reason I bought out of California was selection. I didn't want to order with the lead times I was quoted and I couldn't find anything that checked all the boxes anywhere near me. I bought the truck from Texas and had it delivered to me near my house. All for much less than any dealer out here offered me. If I didn't accept the truck for any reason I could refuse delivery or accept it and they would make it right. Worked out well for me. We may buy a new Jeep for my wife this way.

If you don't mind me asking, what price did you get relative to invoice? I'm curious if I should go that route.

I have bought from both DD and Dave Smith and in late 2017 Dennis Dillon beat Dave Smith on my Wrangler JKUR recon but when I bought my 2020 Power Wagon I tried to deal with Dennis Dillion and they could not beat my local Lithia dealer and Dave Smith could not either.

You may/may not know this, but if that jeep is gas, you will not be able to register it in California. Whole set of different rules on that.

Care to share the "Whole set of different rules". I can't imagine why a new gas Jeep bought out of state cannot be registered in Califunny.

Is OH

Does that state follow the carb emission rules?
The 14 states and DC adopting CARB standards include Arizona, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington, as well as the District of Columbia.

Every car has a plaque that tells if it can be sold in California and, by extension, any of the other CARB states.

Here is the DMV part: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/file/...an-you-register-it-in-california-ffvr-29-pdf/

It states that not all 49 state compliant vehicles are California compliant, which means that if you do buy something with less than 7,500 miles on it, you need to check that it is California compliant, not just fed compliant. Basically saying what you did on your last post as far as needing that sticker specifically saying it is okay for California.
