Option Availability on New Orders

I’m starting the process of deciding what options I want on my 3500 order and have quickly learned that option availability is a constantly changing variable, and that what’s out there on the Ram Build Site may or may not match current reality. So a few questions…

Are the available options updated on a set schedule - meaning do they change like the fist Monday of each month - or can they change at any time?
If there’s a disconnect between the Ram Build Site and what’s really currently available, is the only way to know for sure what options are available for a build to contact a dealers?

I’m wanting a Laramie 3500 4x4 Night Edition with the Tow Tech Group and the Trailer Surround View Camera System options. Right now these two options aren’t available on the 3500 Laramie. Like I said I’m just starting to look around, has anyone seen these options available with this model/trim lately?

Thanks in advance for anyone’s input.

Given how quickly and often the options change I think your best bet is to do the build at a dealer. I've seen several people build one on the web site only to find out some of the options were not available when they went to process the order.

Unfortunately it's a horrible time to be buying a new truck, especially that mid-to upper-mid tier trim. So many options have been removed or reserved for only the highest level limited you really aren't getting all the you should. I mean paying $80k+ for a Larimie and not getting power folding mirrors? Come on..

Blind spot is also not currently available. Night edition and the 360 camera were not available for quite some time the end of the year so I waited. Then they came back and other options dropped. It's a crapshoot. Dealer said to call weekly but that seems like a PITA. I'm not paying $70,000 + for a truck missing features I want.

And yes, the Ram site is not up to date on options or pricing.

Find you a good dealership to work with. Then work with them to spec out your truck. When I ordered mine, I asked about some things I had heard could be done but were not available thru the website builder. My dealership was able to order them.
Years ago when I ordered a new chevy, similar thing, dealership went thru their list with me. Once it was done, he was able to go back and review it and combine a few things with options I liked but didnt want to pay for and put them in one of the "packages" and saved me some money.

You can't add options that are not currently available on the dealer build page which are due to the chip shortage and supply chain. Has nothing to do with the Ram website we can access which is wrong and not up to date.

Aaaaaabsolutely !

Anyone have a dealer in the Kansas City area they would recommend? I’ve gone back and for with Granger on a few quotes but I’m hoping to use those to get a local dealer to match price. If I need to work with them to save thousands I will - even though they are 3 1/2 hours away. But its kind of a pain, especially with a trade in, so I’d like to find someone local.

If I’m going to drop 80k on a truck I‘d like to be able to get the options I want. I understand the reason behind why I can’t, but frustrating when the options themselves are only a few hundred of dollars more, its not like they are $3-4k packages.

One other thing to note....make sure your deposit is 100% refundable.

As you've already noticed they can change the available options/packages at any time, including in the middle of your build. If what shows up on delivery day isn't 100% what you want, be prepared to take back your deposit and walk away.

As for trading vs selling. Once things get a little closer, you can always look at options like Vroom, Carvana, etc... where you don't have to necessarily trade to the same dealer you're buying from.

I‘ve done some quotes on Carvans and Vroom just to get some idea of what I can count on but would prefer to trade in and get the savings on the sales tax, which can be material since I’m hoping to get somewhere around 15k on the trade.

Thanks everyone for the replies / advice.

Even with a trade in, I doubt you will save anything on the sales tax. The sales tax will be based off of what the saleing price is before any money down, trade in, incentives, etc.

When I bought mine, I had 2 vehicles I was looking at trading in if i couldn't sell them. I wound up selling my truck to a individual. Sold the car to carvana. Got almost what I was asking for them. This was at the beginning of the big jump in prices of everything back in June.
Caravana was a simple transaction. I loaded up pictures on their website with VIN and details of the car. They gave me a fair offer. Made a pickup date. They came to the house, didn't even test drive or look over the car. Signed some papers, they loaded up the car, gave me the check and drove away.

just my opinion, but it's a good time to drive what you have. having to work to spend 70-80k is crazy. i tried to build one a week or two back and got told no BSM on an 81k sticker truck. sign from the powers that be to cool your jets and run what you have until the world calms down.

In Kansas you don’t pay sales tax on the trade in value. I have a quote from Carava for $17k so that’s a little over $1,500 in sales tax savings I would lose if I sold vs. traded in - obviously depending on how close the dealership is to the Carvana quote.

PA works the same way. I got competitive offers for my 1500 from the dealer and webuyanycar.com. both carvana and vroom were way low.

^ Yep, a lot of states take off the trade value from the purchase price taxable value. If I was to trade in my 16' right now (with these crazy prices) It would knock almost $4000 off the taxes vs not trading. So if I was selling private party I would have to get At Least $4k more just to break even....

Completely agree. The BSM is partially what was holding me back from ordering. Problem is that if you wait too long, your trade value will go down while the new one continues to go up. Hearing at least 2% per quarter this year alone. And it's not just Ram. Several options on the F250 are no longer available due to shortages for the rest of MY22. Torn as to keep checking for the options to become available again vs saying the heck with it. Don't currently need a new truck but eventually if they keep raising prices, will be priced out of the market.

This is the most frustrating thing I've ever dealt with. Ram site is way off. I was dealing with granger and thought I had a deal done on Friday. By the time the gal responded back to me to confirm things, it was tuesday and the price had jumped 900 over the weekend. There also seems to be allocation problems. Granger is telling me no on the Rambox, another dealer says they can get it. Currently have a quote through Mark Dodge and if they can lock me in at that price, I'm in. I tried a few local dealers to see if they could get in the ball park of the high volume dealers. Most wanted full MSRP and some were 3K over MSRP. I'm fortunate that I don't NEED a truck but I could stand to upgrade from my 1500. If the deal works out it works out, if not Ill wait.

I quote a 2022 3500 Laramie before deciding on a 3500 Limited. (December of 2021)

I remember ordering the Tow Tech Group, but I don't know if it had the Trailer Surround View Camera.

The costco auto builder has the Tow Tech Group B available with the 3500 Laramie Night so if its accurate I’d just be missing the Trailer Surround View Camera System.

In terms or working with dealers has anyone had much luck with Granger? I’ve sent them a few builds along with questions, and they always respond with a quote but never address my questions at all - you can tell the reply is just a boilerplate response with the quote attached.

Same experience. They have 1 person dealing with ram orders and I'm sure she is busy. I've tried to reach her by phone multiple times and have been emailing for weeks. Just get generic replays with my build. As of tonight, I have a deal with a salesman at Mark dodge. Paperwork being completed tomorrow hopefully. The salesman there has been prompt with emails, calls me, text me and has been very forthcoming with details. Price was about the same but they claim to be able to order the rambox and granger couldn't. Granger is 3 hours from me and mark dodge is 16.
