2020 2500 6.4 with 18000 miles.
The other day I went out and started the truck up to warm up and the noise here in the Video started after the truck had been running about 20 seconds and lasted about 30 seconds. You can hear it stop at the end of the video.
It happened again the next time I started it in the morning, a few days later. Now the outside temperature was in the low to mid 20's both times.
The second time I shifted the transmission into gear while it was making the noise and the noise immediately quit.
YOur thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Kevin.

What’s your oil pressure when it happens? Sounds like valve train noise to me. But I’m just guessing. Not sure if the 6.4 have hydraulic lifters but that could be taking some time to “pump up”. I’d just try an oil change and see if it helps it. Good luck.

Noise seems to happen when it is cold outside. The last few times I started the truck the temps have been 40+ and the issue wasn't there.
The noise will stop immediately when the transmission is shifted out of park, leading me to believe it is something with the transmission but not sure.
Noise will be hard to duplicate now as the temps are on the rise. Over night lows will be 40+ for at least the next 10 days.

I’ve had some issues similar to this on many of my old GM LS engines. They’d tick for 20-30 seconds when It would get sub zero during the winters and it really was noticeable when the oil was nearing service time. I could change the oil and it seemed to fix the problem. Not saying this is what you have going on, especially when putting in gear eliminates the sound. But oils a relatively cheap thing to try and not a total waste if it doesn’t fix it.
