One caliper not funtioning

<div class="bbWrapper">Rotating the tires today and realized the passenger rear caliper Is not engaging. Now that caliper is working.<br /> Thinking maybe when I crammed the parking brake down in the shop, I broke the caliper lose. <br /> <br /> Service the brakes - maybe ? Overkill?</div>
 
<div class="bbWrapper">I&#039;d be tempted to take that caliper off and check for seized stuff and the integrity of the piston&#039;s dust boot. I&#039;ve seen them torn on new vehicles.</div>

I was thinking I should at least make sure the pin move freely.</div>
 
<div class="bbWrapper">I have had two vehicles with calipers fail. New 12 3500 and a low mile Jeep. They both would lock up and not release. Took the 12 back to the dealer with the rotor cooking and brought the clueless service counter monkey out and showed them the difference on each side with the heat gun. Should of told her to stick her fingers in there for a test<img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f621.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":mad:" title="Mad :mad:" data-smilie="4"data-shortname=":mad:" /> Anyhow tech disassembled and said sliders we’re dry and a little rusted (duh it’s Alberta they are like that 10 min after driving away from dealer) so they charged me for new sliders and patted them selves on the back. It didn’t last and would lock up periodically until I finally replaced the rotor and calliper myself. New parts fail but u go to dealer and they roll their eyes and say they are ‘’NEW” parts<img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f644.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":rolleyes:" title="Roll Eyes :rolleyes:" data-smilie="11"data-shortname=":rolleyes:" /></div>
 
<div class="bbWrapper">I disassembled it.<br /> Pins are lubricated and slide well<br /> Pads move as well as can be expected.<br /> Caliper manually retracts very smoothly.<br /> All rubber components are intact<br /> <br /> I started the truck and applied brakes with callipers removed. I expected that to fully extend the callipers but it didn&#039;t. Both sides. Seems off to me but Im not a brake expert so maybe thats normal.<br /> <br /> Guess I&#039;ll take this to the dealer so I have it on record. Also need to get the latest software updates.</div>
 
<div class="bbWrapper">Came back from a drive and measured the rotor temps.<br /> Fronts were 174 and 168<br /> Rears were 77 and 78.<br /> <br /> Id be curious to what other members temps are after a drive.<br /> Any other ideas on how I can determine whether the rear brakes are applying the correct amount of braking power?</div>
 
<div class="bbWrapper">The heat gun method works pretty well. At least you know one side is not over/under working the other. I guess the good old days are gone when you could lock up the brakes a little on a gravel road and see which corners were working and when.</div>
 
<div class="bbWrapper">It appears at least that the rear binders are working equally - for now. Gotta wonder now if the brake system was bled properly during vehicle assy.</div>

They do feel a bit squishy. Thought it might be the nature of this truck.<br /> I do like the clips on the brake pads. Better design than most that I&#039;ve worked on.<br /> If bleeding them doesn&#039;t help - I might have to let the dealer touch it when I get my software updates.</div>
