I appreciate forums for the information they can provide. What did we do before the internet came along? I'm on my third and probably final Ram 2500 with the 6.7 Cummins. My first two were bullet proof and never gave any problem with the exception of one key fob going bad on my 2017 after 60k miles. Two years ago before I retired I purchased a new 2020, again with the 6.7 Cummins and did so only so I could start with lower miles in retirement. I worked one more year after I purchased it while I did repairs to my home in the country so in two years I put 37k miles on it. Last week I got the dreaded P242F DPF full code and came to this site and found the TSB 18-012-21 Rev A posted by Brutal HO (thank you sir).
I do all of my own work as I prefer to know things are done correctly, so fuel filters, oil changes and other basic services I take care of myself. Last Friday after 3 days of hard freeze as I was going to town I got the message that it was in regeneration mode and within seconds got the check engine light and the message to visit the dealer and I was in reduced power. I came here did a little research found the TSB and contacted a local dealer because the P242F code is one you cannot clear with a normal scanner. They cleared the code, did the flash update today and got it back in regeneration mode. After driving 35 miles the regeneration was complete and DPF shows back at 0% again and the truck runs great. My home is in the country but since I no longer do a 400 mile drive every Sunday to come here and live here full time all of my travels are usually short trips. So now I know to keep an eye on the DPF filter guage and when it goes into Regeneration to just take a longer drive until it clears.
