Oil leak?

I’m hoping this is just oil from production. The truck has right at 4000 miles. Does this look like an unusual amount of oil seepage for a new truck. I took the picture at a bad angle and unfortunately I have already wiped the oil off to see if it comes back. There is a drip at the bottom of the transmission dust cover that’s about the size of the one you see on the transmission to engine mounting bolt area. I have not had an oil change done yet, so it shouldn’t be residual oil from any drippage from an oil change.

Wiped it dry, drove about 20 miles yesterday and let it sit overnight. Probably rear main. I had to that on my '14.

I found a couple of manufacture's communications here https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2020/...0CAB/PU%252FCC/4WD#manufacturerCommunications under Engine and Cooling surrounding leaks identified. Possible issue with bolts. Not sure if this is the same location you are seeing an issue with.

Thanks for the info. I assume the last 2 links you gave me contains the information from the first link. It may just be me, but I cannot find reference to a leak in the first link. The last 2 links are referencing the timing chain cover. I don't think that's my leak.
I took my truck to the dealer today and talked to the mechanic. I guess he didn't want to crawl under the truck just then, but I did show him my 2 pictures. He seemed to think it was the rear main seal. Just as I suspected. Anyhow, I'm taking it in early next week for repair.
Not too happy about the prospect of removing the tranny and driveline on my pretty much brand new truck, but such is life.
Thanks!

eh, it's simple to a competent tech that gives a crap. it's finding one of those unicorns that's the difficult part.

This is EXACTLY where mine is leaking from!!! I found this post and thought it was my video at first, lol. 1100 miles in and I am scheduling my first service appointment :(

I also cannot get the "Push Button to Start..." message to shut off when I arm the truck.

What happened after the service/repair? Any further issues?

In the past there used to be assembly lube that would appear at the rear main early on but that looks like motor oil. Yes it's a crapshoot to find a good mechanic these days. Maybe ask around to see if your local dealer has a qualified diesel mechanic or check another dealer before you get the repair. Luckily my local dealer here in UT has a great certified diesel mechanic that gives a damn

At only 1150 miles on a 2021, not only is my DEF tank already empty, but there is also a significant rear main seal leak. (I mean, the dealer thinks at this moment in time that the source of the leak is the rear main seal…)

Ouch, hope they get these issues fixed for you!

Found this leak a couple weeks ago. The 3500 has about 16,000 miles.

Looks like the rear main seal

I dropped off the truck last week for the oil leak and after a couple of days, I pick up my truck after hours (service department closes at 1700) only to see the fix was a new transmission pan gasket and replacement of the transmission fluid. The leak didn't look like it was coming from the transmission gasket. Now I have to keep an eye on this. Ugh

I had a oil leak on my 2020 3500 with 9,600 miles on it with the Aisin trans and they first thought it was some valve thing in the trans and when that didn’t fix it they tore it apart and decided it needed a new transmission. 6 weeks later the transmission just showed up today, hopefully I get my truck back this week. This is my 1st Ram after 3 Ford Super Duty’s, 08, 11 and 17, hopefully this isn’t a sign that I made a mistake coming to Ram.
