Oil filter wrench

The Donaldson DBL7349 is one of the best oil filters compatible with our trucks. I use the Amsoil EAO80 which is the Donaldson DBL7349 but made with a fluted end. I combine that with a 93mm fluted filter wrench and a long 18" X 3/8" drive. Taking the filter off through the wheel well is a piece of cake. Don't forget to also grab a filter plug so you can turn the filter sideways while removing it and not make a mess.

I'm not sure the Amsoil EA 80 is still made by Donaldson, My self I buy the DBL 739 from Cross Filters, $26 ea, 2@ $40 or 3@ $52, the last time I purchased from Cross Filters shipping was included in the price.

From what I’ve read on BITOG, Amsoil, Royal Purple and Fram Endurance filters are all being made by Champ Labs.

I’m fairly certain that may no longer be the case. At one time, the EAO80 was a Donaldson endurance filter rebranded. However, after looking at the new ones, and comparing it to others, I don’t believe it is a Donaldson anymore. I have some calls in to information sources and am waiting for a response back. The specs for the EAO80 no longer align with that of the Donaldson DBL7349, and the two filters are physically not the same in several aspects. I’m thinking Amsoil went elsewhere but am waiting for confirmation of this.

I've been going in through the top after removing the intake tract from the air filter. Super simple. Same as I did on my '93. No need to tip the filter so there is no oil spill. The strap wrench note from above is good advice if needed. It's just tough to get a good angle on it. I have my grandfathers from the early 1900's. But once I got the factory filter off I only use hand tight like others.

I've been using the EAO80 since 2018 and haven't noticed a difference. Will be very interesting to find out if there's been a change.
