change my oil in december and was right on top mark on dipstick . recheck oil after 2500km and still the same but recently 3500km later than last check oil pressure seem to have drop like 3-5psi and my oil level sit a little lower than half of dipstick mark!
1. is anybody run through this.
2. does those engine burn oil when extrem cold start like -30c
3.or block heater evaporated oil (dont think so but beter asking than not)
4. was having excessive regen and sensor not reading correctly on dpf is it possible engine burning oil messed all dpf ****

i ll ask dealer to check for leak since truck is there for def and dpf issue oooohh man i hate that junk !

Not quite the same but my 12 6.7 has had hundreds of cold starts. It also had dpf problems but no oil consumption in 130km.

I used about a quart of the factory fill after 12K kms, which included lotsa towing. Filled with 5W-40 T6 last Oct and the level is good. That could change, though, when we start tugging again.

Is it possible that the oil filter fill itself and rob oil from the pan?
But should have been right at the first start up ?
Cause when i did my oil/filter change the filter wasnt very full like half a cup of oil in it . It surprise me!

After the truck is turned off for about 30 min or so oil from the filter siphons back to the pan. It’s been like this on every Cummins since 1989, perfectly normal. If you shut the truck off and immediately cracked loose the oil filter it would gush out oil. It does make a less messy oil change experience if you let it sit a bit before loosening.

I'm not towing frequently in winter monthsand when i do trailer are not really heavy 3500lbs max so no hard use

Just outta curiosity, what's the inside of your tailpipe look like. Late model, emissions compliant diesels run pretty clean and there should be little or no evidence of soot/carbon in the tailpipe. That might be dirty if oil is getting up past the pistons.

I put 40,000 miles towing 14000 lb 5th wheel and the motor in the 73,000 miles i owned I never added a drop !

Did ya get this figured out?

sorry for the wait

i dont even have my truck since the 26th february!
def pump assembly was back order and they just received it this past week !
i talk to the dealer and he doesnt want to check it they told me it was normal for a 19th and other consumer complain about oil consumption .... dam im so pissed off! im about to pull the plug and change brand or just buy at an other dealer !

i'll call him back about that tail pipe tip soot

The best thing you can do for a Cummins is work it HARD. Hook onto something heavy and find the longest steepest grades you can. It is not a grocery-getter engine. The harder they work, the happier they are.

Yep but since dodge do not make 1500 with a 8ft box its the only option for me;) and 1500 front end is a pain in the butt when you ride alot of gravel road! i'll try to hook something heavy truck might not be break in like it should!
