OEM Upfitter Switches on 2023 2500 Limited w Reverse Trailer Steering???

To be honest it is very overpriced at $250, but Kelderman does offer a nice 3D printed mount for the switchpro to go overhead:

(Picture on their site is the Ford version, but you can get an idea of what the Ram version would look like by checking out the Airlift 3H overhead mount they offer)

That’s a bit insane for a small 3D printed part. I think I’d go for @NHOverland’s mount for $60 before I considered that one. His even closes up inside the sunglasses holder if you want to hide it.

Thats a 4th gen and you can put the switch panel in and buy the PDC ( you already have it because you have a diesel and the electric cabin heater fuses and relays are in the same PDC) but you have to make your own harness and that harness kit you posted is for adding things to the switches to utilize them not to install them. Thats the same kit you get when you buy the truck with the switches already

This has been covered before the aftermarket companies like auxbeam, spod and switch pros are the go to for adding switches if you don't have them

Thanks, will check that out. I am all for avoiding brain damage, given how damaged mine is already.

Where do folks mount the Auxbeam control panel? Any threads showing smart installs?

That won’t work in my new Limited, too much going up there I think. Etsy shows some 3D printer versions that seem to bite into the front lip of the sunroof and tuck in under the leading edge of the overhead panel. $25 but not the most elegant design.

The small removable panel below the headlight knob is where most seem to mount them

Will be sure to check that out.

Don’t even have anything to run through Auxbeam yet but I am sure I can find uses if I put my mind to it. ;)

This area in screenshot? If so, isn’t that angle difficult to see buttons or do folks use a DIY metal bracket or printed mount to get better angle?

I feel like your knee might interfere there depending on where you sit. Just FYI to the right of your arrow in the center of the panel below the steering wheel there is a decent space that is clear for mounting things. Its where I mounted my GMRS radio unit. Might be hard to reach a switch panel though. There isn't a lot of extra real estate behind our dashes...

I appreciate you noting that, but is that solution worth 3X the high end Auxbeam, whose install would be far less painful.

I am not moved away from trying to integrate into the truck's system, even if the harnesses are there. Now trying to figure out there to mount an Auxbeam control panel.

With the CD player gone, there is a little open slot in that location next to the USB ports that is 4.5"x3", the size of the plastic pad that's in there. I thought it would be cool to fashion some sort of sliding tray that could allow the panel to be stowed when not needed but pulled out when you do. Unfortunately, the Auxbeam controller on the newest 8 switch version is 4.75" wide.

still thinking

Bulletpoint mounts are great, I have a loaded Limited 3500 and still put my phones in them…
I don't want to call the Rubigrid mounting system an epiphany moment, more like a revelation. And you don't have to do anything weird with all that limited but really nice dash material.

I just received a third ball with a short arm for the Voyager display for the wireless camera that Airstream puts on the back of all of its trailers. The display's mount uses a 20mm call so it will be a perfect matching into the Bulletpoint system. And with the cigarette lighter adapter up in that space, makes charging the phone(s) easy with wires dangling down the front of the LCD screen to the USB ports below.

Reverse trailer steering is a thing??!! They might as well call it the "cheating knob"!!! Please immediately surrender your man card! ;) :p

I have it and I hate it. I think it actually makes backing a trailer more difficult. I can see it *maybe* being useful if this is your first truck and you've never towed before, but if you've been towing for decades you'll probably hate it like me.

Insider indicates powertrain in 2024, cab in 2025.

Wait, really? They're REALLY going to finally update these HDs??? A new gas engine is on that list maybe??

We were going to order a 3500, but decided to wait to see if there was a cab update for 2023. Now we're waiting to see if it'll be 2024. Looks like it might be 2025. Our 2022 1500 will be paid for by then.

Another sidebar for you all... does anyone have the part number for this piece?! I've ordered 2 that were wrong panels. Mine looks like swiss cheese from switches I removed after installing OEM Aux switches.

So i received the Auxbeam 8 switch unit yesterday and it is going to work out very nicely. I am going to "borrow" that idea above of mounting in space between the light controls and the sunroof lip. Instead of a 3D printed solution, I am going to use some thin Kydex that I will bend to hook into the sunroof lip and tuck under the frame of the light switch control area. I will run the wire upward, along the lip of the sunroof, over to the pillar and then down before passing through firewall.

I am going to mount the engine-side connection/relay unit directly to the top of the big fuse box on the driver's side. As much as I would like an alternative location, there is just so space available with the Cummins and two batteries.

Anyone interested in a thread on that installation process?

I'm a bit late to this thread but I have no plans to ever use the reverse trailer steering knob. @Jimmy07 I'd appreciate your input, your thoughts on replacement parts to eliminate the actual knob and replace with the aux switches? My Aux fuse box only has three relays and fuses in it. my 2023 Longhorn NEEDS lots of electronical gadgets like led lighting, power tonneau cover... I'm just not sure how to move forward without any aux switches as of yet. Thanks for your input!

Basically, you’ll just buy the aux switch panel you need, remove the trailer reverse parts, re-route the camera cable with a short adapter, and follow one of the several ways to add the wiring in the adding aux switches thread. A few settings in AlfaOBD to enable the switches, and one setting to disable the trailer reverse steering.
If you do go through with it, I’ll buy the trailer reverse knob, lower switch bank, and trailer reverse module off you.

Thanks @Jimmy07, I knew you would at least try to stop me before I get in over my head. I'll let you know which way I end up going. Cost will be a big factor along with difficulty. I sure appreciate all your help!!

In case anyone is curious how this worked out, I would have needed to replace the 12" Display unit to account for the relocation of the traction control switch.
That's not going to happen. here are a few pics to show what I have vs what I want.
I'm leaning towards installing the Auxbeam switch controller up in the sunglass holder.

My 2024 3500 says it has auxiliary switch prep, but I also got the tow technology plus package. What do you get with the aux prep package? Is everything there BUT the switches (obviously the aux switches won’t be there because the tow steering knob is there)?
