Oem / Srt oil filter?

I am using royal purple filters at this time, only ones i could find.

Fram Ultra XG2. $8.97 at Walmart and still have the wire backed media. Very good flow and filtration. Check it out on BITOG.

Wix makes the SRT filter for Mopar, the WIX part number is 57063 - Napa carries it as PN FIL 7063, a Napa Gold filter, but it lists 57063/Wix clearly in the description. This filter is 100% identical, it just lacks the SRT/Viper branding (in fact, it lacks any branding or part numbers directly on the filter... I suspect this is to leave space for the SRT branding/no reason to fill that space in, those buying this filter know what they're getting...

Anyway, I pay ~$10 each with a wholesale/commercial account, retail expect to pay $13-$14, always check for sales/coupon codes for Napa Online.

I switched to the SRT style filter because it totally eliminates my cold start knocking noises/seems to really do a better job and keeping the engine lubricated.

On the Wix site it lists the 57063 as “Cellulose” or paper. Same media as the stock filters (Mo-899 and MO-399), not the blended media.

Anybody know who makes the Mopar stock filter for the Hemi?

I think it’s made by Purolator but I think they are owned by Mann-Hummel who also owns Wix and a lot of others.

The OEM black filter is produced by purolator, white filters are produced by Wix. Or that's my understanding anyway.

Hmmm, well, I do know that it has the vastly improved/SRT style bypass spring same as SRT. Unfortunately I just did an oil change, and the filter is long gone, but I'll cut open my filter next oil change (usually 3 months or so) and take a look.

I have an autopsied SRT filter in my shop but not the Wix branded one. It does have the dome in bypass and the coil spring that keeps everything in place instead of the flat spring. I don’t know and can’t tell what type media it is but it is a lot tighter spaced or more pleats and taller than the black 899 filter. I’ll try to get some pics.

I didn’t watch the earlier video but he did mention the difference in the media being tighter spaced. He did error in calling the spring in the bottom of the can the bypass spring. That spring keeps the filter cartridge pushed up to the base plate and has nothing to do with the bypass. The bypass for the 899 is in the inlet of the filter (base end bypass) and the SRT has the bypass in the dome end. A spring loaded plunger in the bottom end cap on the filter.

I have a 2020 Power Wagon 6.4.
the oem oil filter is

Mopar (4892339AB)

I have an SRT filter 05038041AA
I have been looking on the mopar parts site, it lists the Challenger 6.4, but not the ram 6.4? can i safely use the srt filter?
My Power Wagon is a 2019. It came with a large filter. When the dealership changed my oil, they put the filter you mention, 489-2339 AB. Which is a smaller filter. a larger filter I would assume is better to catch more material. That number is. 048848 99 AC. I only use the larger filter on my Power Wagon.

Noob 6.4L Hemi owner so I'm redredging the "best oil filter" question so started "back of napkining" a few things.
Couple of 2024/25 videos have shown the Purolator Boss as the current best filtration/flow filters (excellent flow at 98% 20 micron capture). Also interestingly the recommended Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 is ranked as the very best oil.

For the RAM 2500 6.4 Hemi direct part number replacement is the:
  • 6.4 Hemi: PBL12222 - Bypass Valve at 12-15, Height 3.340", OD 2.950" (Canister volume of 22.83 cubic inches = Pi*r*r*height)
  • SRT 6.4: PBL24651 - Bypass Valve at 8-16, Height 3.730", OD 3.770" (Canister volume of 41.64 cubic inches)
Doing at little math,
  • SRT 41.64 cubic inches / 2500 6.4 22.83 cubic inches = 1.82 times the volume of the RAM 6.4 filter!
  • Or flip it over and the 2500 6.4 filter has just at HALF (54%) the SRT filter volume.
  • Again, assuming the same pleat count and filter material...
    • Of course this is assuming Purolator didn't do anything tricky... And of course I didn't screw all this up.
Now does this actually matter? Hopefully not or shame on RAM.

I've been watching my oil pressure trying to will my way past the Hemi tick that the Dodge Magnum acquired at about 60K miles years ago. Regarding oil pressue, the lowest I've seen here in the hellscape of Arizona is 29PSI (85F "cold" startup), with warm idle at 32PSI and normal operation at 52-54 PSI. So in all cases I'm well above the Bypass Valve pressures.

So in summary I'm ordering a 3 pack of Purolator Boss PBL24651 SRT filters and 18 quarts of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40. I'll post here my oil pressures once I do the SRT filter oil change to see if it does in fact flow better than the RAM 6.4 peewee filter.

Any thoughts, concerns, recommendations, or outright bullsh!p detected in the above????

I just buy the factory filter and PuP on Amazon. I do my oil changes at 5k miles rather than the recommended 8k oil change interval.

I have +90k miles on really hot days like yesterday I saw a hot idle 29psi and 52-53 psi at +50 mph.

** The above information is only for reference and I do like the bigger filter idea.

I have been using the SRT filter since new. I purchase a new 2024 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 and dealer said it would not void the warranty. I have 2 free oil changes and the dealer has done both using the SRT filter. You have to ask for that filter to be used as they do not always have it in stock. Like everybody says it has a better filter media and flow rate. The size is a bit larger and fits, just a little less working room.

Update post Purolator Boss PBL24651 "SRT" sized filter and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

First off, if you drop the drain plug into your catch can/jug the plug will most assuredly roll around and plug the catch jug's inlet hole. Then before you can figure it out and fish the 200F drain plug out of the 200F oil.

Results - inconclusive based on oil pressures, but all geek filter testing on YT shows the Boss filtering out much smaller particles (20 micron) than stock. Looking at the filters, there is easily twice the inlet openings of the SRT over the smaller size for both Mopar and Purolator Boss small.

Idle pressure is actually up a slight amount (good), up to 32 PSI from stock small filter's 29 PSI. But this is in the round-off error range.
Warm driving pressure is at 50-52 PSI. Down a slight amount, but still within round-off error range.
When refilling, I did get a full 7 quarts in to top of dipstick range. The 20 cubic inch difference in filter size works out to .35 quarts so seems to make sense.
