Long time reader, first time posting but need help with this issue. I own a 2020 RAM 2500 Laramie crew cab with the 6.7 Cummins. I recently purchased the OEM bed light kit (#82215795AC) and did all of the install myself except for wiring up to the module underneath the driver’s side of dash as I couldn’t reach it without disassembling half the dash. So I took it to the dealership where they also said the computer had to be reflashed to recognize the light kit. Well now the bed lights do not work properly.
1. The bed light switch won’t turn the lights on and off
2. When the ignition is in the on position the lights are on all the time and won’t turn off.
The dealership said they can’t figure out why this is and their only conclusion is that something went wrong when I installed the lights and harness myself, which I don’t agree with as I am meticulous by nature and spent a full day doing the install and can’t find anything wrong with the wiring harness. Thankfully, they are going to warranty the issue out and order another light kit, remove the existing and replace at no charge.
I’m just scratching my head as I can’t see how me running the wiring harness is the issue and more that it is receiving a constant power source and either they wired it wrong or didn’t program the computer correctly. If it was the wiring harness and it was damaged somewhere then I would think the lights wouldn’t come on at all. Has anyone else ran into this issue or have any additional guidance?
I really don’t want them to have to replace the existing one because I installed it along with my Amp Research power extreme running boards and had to pull the drivers side front wheel well liner out to install the Amp module under the fuse tray and wires through the firewall so the fewer times all of this is disturbed the less likely something else can go wrong.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
