OEM Bed Light Kit Install Problem-Need Help Diagnosing

Went to our local dealership to talk to them, the guy helping me said I didn't need to connect under hood PIN 17. He also said I shouldn't need to program the computer.

I removed the under hood PIN 17 from the circuit, the lights did extinguish, but now the switch is not powering them. The switch continues to operate the cargo and tailgate lights.

Seems like there's a lot of conflicting information out there, given the Infotainment video said connecting that wire did nothing, when in fact it did supply a constant 12V.

Does anyone have an idea, or can you point me in the direction that might.

Thank you.
Sorry you are having issues with this. It seems you might be on a wrong pin? Also the installation for 1500’s is different and I believe doesn’t get the long brown wire connected under the hood. That may be what the tech was thinking of. Also IDK why he said you wouldn’t have to program to activate. The 2500s are , long brown wire under hood and green wire into the BCM.
When I installed mine, the bed light were dead until programming. The switch however would operate the cargo light on and off. I could even switch it on via the push button on the HL switch and off from the bed switch. The fact that you weren’t describing me the same makes me wonder if you were off on a pin location. Not sure if any of this helps.

Thank you for the reply back, unless the pin location has changed I quadrupled check both pin location.

I drew lines through the 1500 instructions, just so I wouldn't confused the different processes.

Did your truck have a pin located in the under hood location, or was it blank? If it did have a wire already did you splice into it?

Good idea scratching out the 1500 areas on the instructions.
Both locations were populated already so I used posi taps to “splice” into those existing wires.

Well, apparently I needed to check the under hood location 5 times. You were right, I pulled the top wire bundle plug and not the bottom wire bundle and plug. I will recheck in the morning and try it again. Fingers crossed.

Just wish these truck just came with this option, or the very least wiring already in place.
