Noob 3500 owner with P026B Code

Hi everyone, I just took delivery of a 2020 3500 Laramie last night, dove it home 100ish miles, drove 40 miles to work this am, and on the way home check engine light came on, P026B code thrown. Where do I start??? I see a lot of good info here just hard to find out what I should do first? Oh, 45K miles on it... any advice? First time diesel owner... tx!!! Oh cummins turbo diesel dually...

That’s a somewhat common code that will pop up after the Y78 recall is completed. I wonder if your truck was done right before the sale and you are another statistic. Most everyone resets it and it does not come back. Probably worth a trip to your selling dealer for documenting purposes at least.

Thanks flan... I will confirm with the dealer if they just did the y78 recall. If they did, it sounds like you are saying I could clear the code and see if it comes back, right? I do have 1.5 years left on my powertrain warranty thank goodness...

Ok just contacted ram and they said the y78 was performed 7/23, so 9 months ago... did that change anything??
 
How long did it sit on the dealer lot for sale?
 
Ok get it checked out, let us know what they have to say.
 
Dealer is saying until they can get it in, it is ok to drive. What do you experts on this forum say?? :)

While only speculation, it is likely that your fuel injectors will need a diagnosis. Code P026B appears when there is a concern with the injection timing performance of the vehicle’s engine. If the timing of the fuel injection is incorrect, it can result in reduced engine performance. Other possible causes of P026B includes concerns with dirty or malfunctioning mass airflow sensor, exhaust gas recirculation valve (can cause a restriction of air flow to the engine.), a clogged fuel filter, or a concern with the fuel injector control module. If you decide to have your vehicle serviced, our team would be more than happy to work alongside your dealer to confirm the direct cause, and subsequent repair needed to return your vehicle to its proper standing.

Thank you Ram Cares... you say reduced performance... I could interpret that to mean it wont damage anything to drive in this condition, it just might not have have the power it should have. Is that an accurate statement? I do have an appt for Wed (It's Friday today) with my local Ram Service Center, I just want to know if I should refrain from driving it until then..... tx

Essentially, yes. However, your safety is our top priority, and we would recommend driving in your vehicle as a last resort until your upcoming appointment. Hello all, here with an update. On Friday evening I went to move the truck and the check engine light was off. I do have an appt for Wed. Any thoughts on why that might clear by itself?
 
If the ecm reads normal parameters for a few drive cycles typically the cel will clear itself. There may be a stored code the dealer can see with their witech scanner.

I am currently dealing with this issue now. Dealt with the codes being intermittent for 6-7 months, finally a new dealer found metal debris in the fuel system. And the only possible cause was from the recall performed 9 months ago. I would have them check for shavings. Now I'm dealing with Ram and warranty to see if they will cover for initial recall.
 
Hi all, the truck was "tested" by the dealer, this was the response..." test is done and all reading submitted to our engineer department based off the readings they have advised us to replace the fuel pressure regulator first, part will be in tomorrow". I will be picking it tomorrow (friday). Will keep the post updated... tx for ali the help!
 
I had this code pop up off and on over this past winter. I brought it in to dealer and they just cleared it. I suspect ithe issue came from a poor batch of fuel from my local station. The code would go away after fuelling up at other stations. I made it a point not to fuel up locally for a couple of months now and the code has yet to come back.
 
I got this code this evening. I thought I had had this code on my 2013 RAM 2500 diesel previously. Now I have it on my 2020 RAM 3500 diesel dually. I reset the code, changed the air filter (35,000 miles on it), and drove it for 10+ miles. No more codes. Now I'll change my air filter every other oil change, instead of every 3!
