I guess my luck must really sucks since I'm going on #2 cp4 pump in 9k miles. Luckily neither has taken the whole fuel system out with it yet, only pump replacement ATM.
Thank you for your sacrifices. We all appreciate your efforts to increase our odds to have a good pump.

As some of you may remember early this year from my thread CP4 Rattle Vibration Noise (Video Uploaded), the dealer ended up replacing my original pump at 2700 miles then my truck proceeded to blow the inlet fuel line off after 6 miles entering the freeway at 65mph. The first replacement pump has a rattle noise they can duplicate with the fast idle starting at 1200rpm's that can't be heard on any other like trucks they have. What this dealer thinks is when It lost fuel line pressure when the line blew off it pitted the piston in the pump making the new rattle noise and needs replacement again.

Would a bunch of clogged fuel lines and injectors downstream doom his second CP4?
That is crazy, do you have any tips, did you hear something about to go and then shut it down or just good dumb luck

So can one assume that a good/ bad precursor to a preemptive cp4 failure is set your idle at 1200 and listen for a rattle, is that accurate?

My first cp4 just made a horrible constant rattle sound like a bunch of loose spec tappets rattling out of spec that you could hear from over 20ft away hence first replacement, then the fuel inlet hose blowing off causing the truck to die at 2500 rpms and losing fuel pressure and lubrication may have cause the second pump to have issues as well who knows. Ram was fighting the dealer on the second replacement but came up with nothing and the dealer opened a star case to get the 2nd pump in but who knows when they will get that in.

My truck still runs it's that my cp4 pump just makes this loud lifter like rattle tappet noise after 1200 rpm's driving down the road. Under 1200 rpm's it just has a humming noise.

I don't know if that's how I would predict a failure but it would be something to listen to, now is this caused by the fuel line coming off idk. Remember mine have not been complete doom and gloom failures like some with a complete fuel system replacement only pump replacements. I'm so going back to gas after all this is done thou.

Are you sure they are flashing the correct pump code? If you have the new asymmetrical pump it uses a different flash.

Both of my pumps were and currently asymmetrical old style, my truck was built in March 2019 and I purchased it in late November 2019 and they replaced the 1st pump in February 2020. Here's a pic of my current pump that currently makes noise.

Wich is better to have symmetrical or asymmetrical? How do you know wich one you have

Do they expect you to drive around in a jeep throughout this process? I’m thinking about buying 21 /3500. If this happens to me I’ll be screwed.. I depend on my trailer moving and no jeep is going to be able to do that. Sorry to hear you’re having to go through this process.. I’m sure they’ll figure it out soon as they are paying through the nose for this problem.

They put me in a 1500 finally. Can't pull my big trailers with it but it gets me around. @RamCares is emailing me telling me that parts are en route but the dealer knows nothing about it. I'm guessing with the 3 other trucks at the dealership waiting on the same part they may try and use mine for another truck that has been there longer. No very happy with the lack of communication from this dealer as of yet.

I hope you get your new pump soon, did Ram try to blame contaminated diesel fuel on you as they have tried with me except I have every receipt for fuel from top tier station since day 1.

No luckily, as soon as it hit the dealer I already had Ram Cares calling them. They didn't have a chance to throw blame. Unfortunately I already knew how this dealer operated so I wasn't giving them the chance.

I bought the truck around the 4th of July this year. I was working in South Dakota and a dealer from Texas delivered it to me sight unseen. I drove it from SD to Oregon twice, to Alabama and back to SD, then home to Texas with a bunch of miles in between. Barely had the truck over a solid month before it quit at 17k.

Got the call from the dealership that my 2nd replacement CP4 pump is in, so I stopped by to check out and see which one they shipped asymmetrical old style or symmetrical new style. Thankfully they shipped the new symmetrical pump out to them. This was the part # on the box but I cannot come up with anything on it. They cannot get to my truck tell next Friday the 16th to install it thou.

nice! Good luck with the new one.

I was told by my dealer that my complete fuel system can be swapped in 5 hours? Sound a little quick to anyone?

I can't see them changing all 6 injectors, all fuel lines inlet and return and the injection pump all in 5 hours. I was told it's 2-2 1/2 hours to just do the CP4 pump. Maybe they are going to put there 3 best guys on it ;)

They said they are changing everything from the tank to the injectors lol. I don’t see.

@RamCares emailed 10/1 and said the week of 10/5 there will be updates on parts. Have yet to get a response. I’ve emailed, called, and left VM’s. Last word was sometime in November.
