No front brake pads available!

I took my 2019 Ram 2500 4x4 diesel with 54k miles in for an oil change and asked them to check the brakes. I got a call about 1 hour later. My front brakes are down to 3/32, so I said go ahead and change them. The response was concerning! They said they would be happy to but there are no front brake pads available. Apparently, there is supposed to be a shipment of 15,000 pads being delivered to Detroit sometime next week. Front pads have not been available for 3 weeks. After they get delivered to Detroit, they will be sent out to dealers. That amounts to another 1-2 weeks before my dealer will have pads. This sucks!!!!
I would check the pad wear yourself. Sometimes dealerships will exaggerate. I had the local Chrysler dealership tell my my brake pads were worn out on one of my cars. Told them not to worry about it. Got home and checked. They still had 80 percent left. Not saying that your dealership would do it, but doesn't hurt to confirm. There are also some good aftermarket pads out there. Check Genos Garage.

Thanks, I'll check Genos. By the way it wasn't a dealer that found the pads low. It was a private shop I have been using for 30 years.

Ps. I just checked Genos. Pads for 2019 through 2022 are $250 a set and back ordered until March 30!!

**** ok, hopefully they just need to be worn in. Barely have any taps on them

The brake assist in these trucks is applied based on speed and pressure and traction control, etc. without being overboosted as I feel some vehicles are for the weak that (barely) walk among us. :)

After just over 10K on the clock, mine will haul to a stop damn fast for 9K of truck.

I am interested in this thread and open to hearing anyone suggesting aftermarket brakes to give feedback on the brand, type and the difference versus stock through the pedal and stopping distance. Many times, we get brakes that will out-stop our tires and then you just are playing footsie with ABS and locking up. I drive harder than the average HD driver that runs with the MPG gauge on the EVIC :p you could say that I spend some time watching the boost gauge. I know that although I use the exhaust brake everyday, I will not be in the group of brakes lasting longer than the truck .. Power stop or stock seem to be my only choice as Wilwood needs a 20`` rim and I do not belong to that crowd either.

I just installed a Z23 Powerstop kit on a car of mine and am very happy with that pedal feel and stopping power. I would go with them on the truck for sure.

I have always ran power stop on my 350s and they stop instantly. I will probably be switching to them when the suspension is all in

A good friend of mine owns a vehicle repair shop. He tells me he see's Power stop pads delaminate from the backing plate on a regular basis. If his customers bring them to him for instalation, he refuses to put them on. I trust this guy. I have also had personal experience with them and they would wear uneven every time. Thanks but, no thanks.

Interesting for sure. What does he recommend? They have been great for a decade for mw

Legit problem trying to find front pads for these HD trucks. You can get aftermarket hawk’s or duralast in about a week but the mopar OEM is back ordered for a while. So order them sooner than later if ya’ll can. Dealer wanted $299 for the OE pads, Genos was cheaper but also back ordered.

Brake job is easy to do once you have the proper pads on hand and the piston expansion tool.

Good luck!

I am on the hunt for front brakes I have 31,000 miles (18,000 is all hwy) on my 21 and the fronts are almost metal to metal all aftermarket manufacturers don’t make them for a 21 and the dealer can not get any for 3 months I was told park it or trade the truck in. There is a quality issue with the pads from what a dealer told me and the OEM has changed suppliers causing the shortage.

Was able to secure a set of front brakes from geno’s (finally!). Swapped the fronts out this morning in my drive way. Took about 2 hours which includes brake fluid bleeding.

The front set only had about 3/32 left and the inside ones were definitely due for a new shoe. 35,xxx on odometer.

Easy job if you have the front set. Good luck!
