So I've had my 19 RAM 2500 Bighorn Cummins Mega Cab for a few months now and I love it. My first FCA vehicle.
Here is a comparison and dump of my thoughts between it and my old Silverado with the Duramax.
Likes:
- LED Headlights. Worth every penny. Very very happy with these. They look good with the rear lights too.
- Refined interior, it really is nice. Even the Bighorn interior feels nicer than the LTZ of the Chevy.
- Center console is great.
- 8.4" Uconnect is much faster and more responsive than the options from Ford / Chevy. I didn't even look at the 12" as I much prefer the physical knobs for HVAC controls.
- It is still new but the fuel economy of the Cummins seems better than that of the Duramax.
- The unloaded ride is pretty good.
- Even the base 6 speaker stereo sounds really good to me.
- There is still a column shift on the Cummins trucks. I know, I know, but I just couldn't get used to the knob when I test drove the gas versions.
- Exhaust brake works well it seems
- Tailgate; smooth, release works well, damped & locking. I hope it stays this nice.
- Regen seems non-intrusive.
- Cargo camera is amazing.
Dislikes:
- Mirrors. This is really the only major thing for me. I can't stress this enough, the passenger side tow mirror on the RAM is horrendous. No matter how they are adjusted I can't seem to see the ground (white line) and cars in the lane next to me at the same time. I'm not sure if the glass is curved or what it is but it is terrible. The view is pathetic, especially in non-tow mode. Compared to my Silverados that have both non-tow and tow mirrors it is just SAD. It makes reversing with mirrors a new challenge when I am used to good visibility from other trucks. I really really wish there was something I could do about it. Anyone have any ideas?
- Capless fill neck. Annoying when I have to add Power Service in colder months to have to get the special funnel out. Then there is nowhere to put the funnel that is now covered in/smells like additive. Not a bad smell but still.
- Media on Uconnect. Why is it I can't have the bluetooth come back on when the vehicle is restarted? My old truck I could have both my phones setup. One for calling, one for media and it stayed. Maybe I am doing something wrong but the Uconnect always seems to default to one and forces me to change my connection every single time for media bluetooth source.
- Non-LED front turn signals. For the money the LED lights cost ($995 MSRP on the '19s) you would have thought the front turn signals would be LED. They are regular old incandescent. Detracts from the looks of the truck.
- Auto-dimming center rear view mirror, when dimmed I can clearly see the outline of the non-dimmed portion of the mirror, probably 3/16" all the way around. My Silverado the entire mirror dimmed.
- Rear air floor vents just kind of poke out of the carpet and look unsightly.
- Hooks and storage box behind the mega cab rear seat have a 'cheap' feeling that doesn't match the rest of the interior. Really we are going to rely on friction of deforming plastic to hold the lids open? I can't see that lasting.
- Cargo camera resolution could be better
Noteable Differences (not bad or good):
- I miss being able to control just the back (vertical) portion of the heated seat like my Chevy.
- Cummins seems to like the lower RPM and tries to lug and stay at low RPM much more than the Duramax, makes it 'feel' slower but hey it's a truck.
- Cummins seems to have a lot less 'nanny control' vs the Duramax. Pedal feel is better on the Cummins.
- Steering wheel controls for the radio don't jump by present they act as a seek. Probably as intended by FCA just different and bugs me.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase. I think I'll be pleased for many years to come other than that shameful passenger side view mirror!
@RamCares if this matters to you at all.
