New Ram HDs in 2027 or 2028

Holy Pics Batman! I think maybe some of that could have been in its own post. Thanks for sharing either way. Always nice to hear someone likes their Ram's enough to buy multiple
Since this is the Ram HD forum, most people don't want to see a dedicated post for the 1/2-ton Ram. I was trying to make a point that I need a Ram HD since I've already maximized what the 1/2-ton can do. We sold our Ram HD back in September of 2016. It was a good truck for the 10 years/150,000 miles we had it.

Being in the steering column development business (for 12 years so far) I can say that a telescoping column will only add more complexity to it and be another source of rattling. It sounds like you use your truck as "a truck" and don't baby it. You might not want anything else to cause rattles, etc. In our research most customers do not telescope their columns regularly unless its a fleet vehicle or switching drivers (like with the wife, etc). Lastly, in most cases the telescope function will only move the column in, not closer to you. So with the current distance of your body to the wheel, you'll only be able to move it away from you which is designed for easier exit of the vehicle. Maybe I misunderstood your comment about the your arms being "straight out."

Well I haven’t ever owned a truck with a telescoping wheel that rattled. And the issue with the Ram 2500 is that the steering wheel is in the “in” position. For example, if you got into a new 1500 with the telescoping steering wheel, unlocked it, pushed it toward the dash, then relock it….THAT is the position the Ram 2500 wheel is fixed in. And that’s the problem. I’d say 90% of the time, men are driving these HD trucks. Why on earth would they put the steering wheel so far away from the driver’s torso? This is why my arms are straight out to grip the wheel. It’s stupid.

Since the seats also have no vertical adjustment whatsoever, and the pedals do not adjust, it’s really difficult to get comfy in these trucks. A simple telescoping steering wheel addition would have gone a LONG way toward fixing the problem.

My seats adjust vertically, and my pedals are adjustable as well.

It’s definitely an available option.

Going from a ’19 F-250 to a ’24 Ram 2500 taught me a few things. I always knew that the old 4th gen cab on these Rams (which we first saw 18 years ago!) was getting long in the tooth. But I guess until you buy one and live with it you don’t notice everything. No telescoping steering wheel? On a $68,000 truck? I’m 6’3”. My arms are pointed straight out and downward to drive this thing. It’s either that or move the seat forward and then fold my legs like a lawn chair. No lumbar adjustment in the seat? Are they kidding? A giant hump in the rear floor. A small rear bench with a cut-out in the middle. The cheapest, junkiest door panels I’ve ever seen. The window switchgear is literally loose and floppy on 2 or 3 of the doors like they’re going to fall out. The driver switchbank did fall out, so I’ve got it silicone’d into place. The exterior door handles feel cheap to the touch. The sound the doors make when they close reminds me of my 1988 Chevy. It’s just pitiful. My ’19 F-250 was a stripped down XLT with zero options and vinyl floors, but it had none of these issues.

I really want to know why Ram never moved the 5th gen cab to the HD line. I had a couple of 5th Gen 1500s and those had none of these issues either. Seems like Ram has a cure for all the woes…they just won’t execute.

As far as the powertrain goes, I honestly don’t want or need more power. The SO Cummins is plenty. I’m sure the ‘25+ trucks are more than enough. I would rather see improved build quality and reliability than more power. But, there are strong rumors still floating that Ram is going to adapt the new 7.2 to the pickups and there are even some hard specs floating around so time will tell if there’s any truth to them.

Definitely the opposite of my experience. I’ve driven a ‘17 F-250 XLT (mid level options) and found it to be a very uncomfortable to drive vehicle. Nothing about it felt ergonomic to me, more like I was a little kid in one of those huge rocking chairs… I’m 6’4” and 210, so not used to that feeling at all. The F-250 also felt extremely cheap and doesn’t have near the build quality any of my 4th gen Ram’s, even my current bare bones base Hemi.

I guess I’m not surprised or care that a base model truck is missing lumbar support or vertical adjustments in the seat, that’s an option and that’s fine with me. I’ve been quite pleased with how comfortable the base seats are in my Tradesman, much more comfortable than the adjustable seats Dad had in his ‘06 Big Horn (never did like those over my 05 non-adjustable seats).

I’m quite pleased with how my 158K mile Tradesman is holding up, no rattle, squeaks, abnormal wear, really just what I’d expect on the drivers seat.

As for telescoping wheels, meh I personally don’t care. We have 2 rigs with them, one we’ve owned for over 20 years, and that feature just doesn’t get used… even with driver height ranging from 5’4” to 6’4”. What started as a way to ensure proper airbag spacing for short drivers seems to be that it’s now more of an exit feature for the ever larger size of our population.

I see your issue now. I'm only 5'9" and don't seem to have that problem... I forgot about being able to adjust the pedals.

As far as rattles go. Most of these higher line vehicles have electronic tilt & telescope columns and that is where rattles can come from. Probably wouldn't be a problem in a Tradesman since they would only have a manual column. Maybe the next generation will have something to fix your dilemma.

We also don't want to see a pic dump of your 1500 towing in a thread about the (possible) new HD RAM.

There's a sticky thread for this. Your post and the 21 pics were moved there.

Oh I'm certain that for enough money a guy can get anything he wants (except a telescoping wheel).

That's why they say "different strokes for different folks!" My experience was exactly the reverse. I guess it's good to have options.
