New Problem - No Start Push Button

Worked fine all day yesterday. Working fine with either key fob, have remote started, done every combination of things and now all is ok. I KNOW it will happen again, which is aggravating to think about.

Following up .... it happened again, and I have a bit of egg on my face, so to speak. I was whining about electronics, turned out to be the starter after all.

When it happened I tried all the key sequence stuff, no luck. I rapped on the starter, still just a click and nothing. I called AAA for a tow and the guy was willing to rap on the starter while I tried the push button multiple times, after a few tries the starter groaned slowly to life and started it. Was pretty obvious at that point, instead of a tow I drove and dropped it at the dealership. The AAA guy followed me and gave me a ride back, I have to say I've had great service and some really great guys when I've needed to use it.

At the dealership they said unfortunately they see a lot of starters being replaced on 2500's without a lot of miles on them (I have 69,000).

So the good news is I don't have anything electronically wrong.

Can we rebuild them with larryB’s like in the old 2nd gen days? The things would last forever. A set of contacts and a plunger was all they ever needed.

One thing to add ... now that I have the new starter, I'm realizing that my rotational speed with the old starter, particularly on cold mornings, was not nearly what it is with the new. The truck started fine so I didn't think much of it, but it was lagging for quite a while before it failed.

Update - last week I had 2 no-start events. Tried all the key fob type stuff, disconnected the battery and reconnected, nothing. So I got under and rapped on the starter. Started right up. Same the 2nd time. So the brand new OEM starter installed at a dealer 2/5/25 has gone bad 8 months later. WTF. It's under warranty but still aggravating.

Even OEM will sometimes provide lower tier quality on replacement parts these days. Ridiculous. Starters should last a very long time.
Way back in the day, if your older car starter was dying sometimes you'd go to a junkyard and grab one off a junk vehicle. That's how long they lasted. Agree this is ridiculous, hopefully the next one lasts longer.

If the positive lead to the starter is the least bit loose this can happen. Worth putting a wrench on it.
