i just purchased a 2021 dodge 2500 6.4L hemi tradesmen i was reading on another site about the 6.4L Hemi and it said something about using the high octane gas for the 6.4l hemi. for the people who own the 6.4l hemi are you using the high octan gas or just regular gas and add high octan boot additive?

Based on many other posts here, in the 2019 MY manuals, 89 octane was recommended. At some point during the 2020 MY that changed to recommending 87.

Personally, I use 85 here in Colorado. Did the same on my last two Hemi's with no issues and don't plan to change. I heard an old wives tale long long ago that due to the altitude, 85 octane here burns similar to 87 at lower elevation. No clue if it is true or false, but in the 4 or 5 vehicles I've had that recommended higher octane, I've always run a level lower than recommended and never had an issue.

When I venture East into the flatlands, I typically end up with 87, but more based on what is available and/or pricing than anything else though.

Check your manual, on your 21 it should be 87 recommended. That's all I'm ever going to run in mine. Well except last week during the deep freeze when the only gas that I could find was Buc-ee's no ethanol 92 octane. I put that stuff in my boat and it ain't cheap which is why it was still available when everything else was out.

My 2020 manual says 87 octane. My truck is my daily driver. 89 is scarce around here so I've used 87 since new with no issues.

Buc-ees is my new favorite place. OP, I have a 19 6.4 and have only used 87. No issues towing in mountains and hills.

MY20, run a top quality 87 and have no issues. During a 2k mile road trip we switched between 87 and 89. Tried to drive the same every tank and between the two fuels there was only a 0.1 MPG difference (in favor of 89 if that makes a difference).

To my surprise the manual on the 21 o says to run 87 octane only...no mention of using 89 like all the other years I’ve owned. It also airs the tires down to 60 front and 65 rear.

I use 89 on my 20' 2500 6.4

I use 89 in mine. The only time I use it I'm pulling. Mine says to use 89. My father's that was purchased 3 months after mine says 87. So I'm sure your okay either way
