My wife is pressuring me to get a new truck. Giving some serious thought to selling my 2007 5.9 Cummins and getting a 2020 2500. At only 116K miles it is a hard decision to make. I do love the refined interior of the new trucks though. The current ride has Carli Suspension on it so I will be shopping for that too.

If I could do it all over again I would keep my 5.9

I am afraid I will be saying that in a year. I love my truck but it would be nice to have something fresh. If I had the space to park 2 trucks I would probably just keep it for a while. Plus, if I get a new truck, she may stop suggesting trading in my LJ on a new Jeep.

Whatever you do, don’t trade it in, they will want to give you 18k and will turn around and sell it for well into the 30k range. Sell it private and you will be able to pay a hefty down payment.

I cannot say much about the 5.9 as I never had one. I do have the 6.7 and am happy although for me is not a work truck and infrequent towing so far. But welcome and happy to see another from Socal. I am in Irvine

If my 04.5 2500 HO was a 3500 and I was legal on GVWR and GCWR, I probably would have stayed in it.

It also very much needed a trans rebuild and I didn't want to deal with trans issues ever again so the 2020 got done.

FWIW, I sold my pre-emission 5.9L 2500 with 72K miles for $20K private. It was a really nice truck.

I had a 2001 5.9 HO, after the warranty was done I put the following on it.
Fresh air intake box (Air Aid).
4 inch free flow mandrel bend exhaust.(delete catalletic).
Super chips set at heavy trailer tow.
It dinoed at the rear wheels at 450hp & 850 Tq.

unfortunately the clutch was the weak link and had to replace with one that could take 900 Tq.

gained 3 mpg mileage, and towed my 12,000lbs 5th wheel RV or my 4,000 Lbs truck camper like nothing. When I towed my 4,000 lbs boat I did not even know it was behind me.
I put 515,000 on it and never had any issues, best truck I ever owned.
I put it up for sale at 10:30 at night after trying to fine some for sale, only found 3 and all were in very bad condition, from need transmissions to motor needs overhauling. They were priced between $9 - 10k.
I put mine up for $12k and had 6 people the next morning at my door wanting to buy the truck (I sold it to the first person).
Lesson learned the cummins Ram is holds its value, I could have gotten at least $20k for it. I owned the truck for 12 years, sold it in 2014.
I only paid $26k for it when it was 6 months old with 15,000 on it, from a ford dealer the original owned decided he wanted a Ford instead (big mistake on his part).

Note: truck before was a 1992 3/4 ton Cummins I put over 500,000 on but also 3 rear diffs, 2 tramissions, front end completely redone, and numerous universal joints. And very badly rusted out.
It only had 160hp & 400tq.
