Hey guys,

My names Jordan. I own a mechanic shop in Sudbury Ontario Canada.

I just traded my 2019 Mega Cab Limited for a 2024 Ram Mega Cab Limited Night Edition.

I love the truck. But one thing that seriously is getting to me (I know small details but for a $110k+ truck I feel I can be a bit upset) lol..

Does anyone know why on earth they took the woodgrain off the steering wheel at the top!?! I asked if I could just swap steering wheels but the buttons etc are different. Anyone know if it’s possible?

Welcome to HDRAMS!

They changed to the 5th Gen wheel which isn't available with the wood since MY 23.

Cost?/style?/? I see chatter that the wood was considered "dated."

@Jimmy07 might know but you may be able to swap in a 19-22 1500 (5th gen) wheel.

Just spoke with him unfortunately not an easy task.. that really sucks. I really loved the dark wood grain on my 19.. Also really sucks the power is so down compared to the new 6.7HO from ford… Is anyone able to delete these trucks yet?

The power wars will keep the makers leapfrogging each other to keep people buying.

When Ram made 1,000 first, Ford followed with 1050, then Ram upped it to 1075, then Ford went to 1,200. I expect Ram/Cummins will do the same or better next go-round. Will be interesting to see how those 1,200 lb.ft. Ferds hold up over time.

The 22 code hasn't been cracked yet AFAIK but you can buy a bench flashed PCM and tune. Don't know about 23-24.

Thank you Sir. I definitely agree. Not complaining. The Rams are WAY better looking. The new Fords look absolutely terrible. I even tried to convince myself and couldn’t the rams just have so much european styling which to me is way better than the other two

I feel your pain! I have a '22 Limited and just ordered a '24 and found out after the fact that it is all leather, only. I was hoping I could swap a '22 wheel and was told no dice.

So here is the initial solution I came up with and actually think I'll be happy with it, I'm getting a carbon fiber wheel made and for less than half price of a factory wheel. It was definitely not my first choice but it beats the hell out of the all leather wheel. Maybe later years will come out with a woodgrain again so an OE swap could be possible. As a second solution I thought about buying a '22 wheel and taking it to some sort of custom shop that works on that stuff and see if they can transfer it to the '24 somehow.

Total bummer

Where are you getting it made? I would be interested in that. I also own a shop so doing the custom wheel thing I may try. thanks for the idea!

Thank you Sir. Appreciate it. I own a mechanic shop in town. I also am a diesel head myself had a few built 6.4’s couple duramax’s too. If you ever need anything come pop in! I also specialize in LS heads cam packages and do in house tuning with HP!

Moonglo Auto Repair!

Nice wheel!!! A little too race car-ish for me but if you ever find a classic wood grain or if anyone knows how to transfer the guts.. (I may try this)

While I completely agree I think I'd still prefer it over the all leather wheel. The dash surround in my '22 is supposed to be a representation of CF and if the '24 has it as well then I think it'll go good
