Good morning. I recentlty purchased a Ram HD 3500 DRW HO Aisin truck and the tranny went out at 1057 miles. The service manager at the dealership said that the entire tranny needs to be replaced. What happened is when I tried to shift from 2WD to 4wd the shift wouldn't occur either into 4HI or 4low. Then when I tried to shift back to 2WD it wouldn't do that either. Has anyone experienced this issue with the Aisin or transfer case?

Sounds like a transfer case issue, not a transmission issue. And first I have heard of. Keep us posted

Certainly not common, but doesn’t sound like a transmission problem.

I agree. I spoke with the tech that diagnosed it and he said that first and reverse clutches were completely burned out. He also said that Chrysler wanted the tranny back to figure out what happened. Hopefully the issue isn't systemic to the new trucks.

That doesn’t even correlate to your issue.

Yikes, I’d be nervous about that tech.

My Aisin is being replaced after 5k miles or so. Little different issue than yours… maybe.

2022 Aisin down for the count….

Yikes... good luck and sorry this is happening.

The Aisin's failing in the 22's is becoming pretty common on the FB groups, most all are at very low mileage when the failure occurs.

Suck! What groups should I look at? Maybe I should start a support group? Lol

I haven't been able to find many details of failed Aisin transmissions on any of the sites that I have visited. There are a lot of complaints of hard shifts especially in the tow haul mode with the exhaust brake on. The dealership that i took mine new 22 to said that it would be at least 45 days to get a replacement transmission. When I expressed my concern about it being a transfer case issue or at least started with trying to put into 4WD they said that the two units communicate with each other and if the tranny is out then the t-case won't let it shift. Don't know if this is true but would expect something like that with the new complicated units. Have a case started with Chrysler corporate people to see if I can get help expediting the unit.

Good to hear, and that makes sense. My service advisor escalated my case and thinks she could have a tranny in another week or two. I should have an update from her later this week.

how long were you waiting before they said they could escalate it? My tranny went out on 12/17. I got it into the shop on 12/10 and they diagnosed it on 12/21.

The OP lost his aisin at 1400 miles...some more comments from the post.

Unfortunately it seems like a common issue right now with Aisan transmissions. My buddy bought his 4500 and tranny went in first 300 miles we replaced it at dealer brand new and went again in 50 miles.

Mine made 1200 and transmission went . It’s been at the dealer now for 7 weeks

Lot of 22's having this problem. Valve body malfunction is what they told me at 4000 miles

Bad valve body… same thing happened to a guy I know last week. He made it 800 miles when it went.

i was told with mine that they changed something in the 22’s because of the hard shifting and whatever they did is overheating them .

My aisin went at 29k. No warranty. $12k bill

suppsingly this is a issue with the 22 mines been stuck for almost 3 weeks but they finally replaced today

Mine made it 1426 miles when the Aisin gave up. Still had paper plates on it. 5 working days.

My went out that 2064 22 ram 4500

Mine stranded me 12/14 and got towed in that evening. Dealer looked at it on the morning of the 16th and ordered the tranny that day. Last week I talked with my service advisor and she was requesting to escalate it then. We’ll see what she says in a couple days.

I think I have to join the group to see posts there. I’ve requested to join.
Thanks for the info!

Mine still running strong at 11000 miles. 75% towing 10,000 lbs fifth wheel. A few rough shifts but way better than my 2017 with 68RFE.

Lol.. love these exaggerations. Good stuff.

update. New Aisin shipped on 12/30 with tranny cooler, hoses and other stuff. Hopefully the dealership will receive it and get the truck back on the road soon. They had two other trucks with similar issues at the dealership with about the same mileage that I have on mine with it failed. I also talked with the dealership in Phoenix where I bought the truck and the service manager there said that he had 4 trucks with similar issues. This sure sounds systemic to me. I asked about what Ram engineering is saying and have only heard "they don't tell us anything". Not a rewarding response. I asked about the fix also to see if they have changed anything or if I should expect this type of failure to happen again in the near future. Again, no information.
