I am curious as I am getting ready to start the process in North Carolina. But getting an appointment is difficult and out there. And on the phone they do not know about the non-CDL class A, or could tell me the process and requirements.
Anyone done this since covid? Covid seems to have changed many processes with out laws changing.

Depends on the state, in Ga "non CDL class A" is technically a class E license. For a class E there is only a knowledge test and no drive test. But NC will probably be different

Can't help with NC, but have had a non-CDL class A for nearly 30 years. Before that had a commercial CDL for 23 years.

Read this NC DMV web page, about 1/2 way down : https://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/license-id/driver-licenses/commercial/Pages/default.aspx

PA offers a non-commercial class A but it’s a joke because in order to obtain it, you have to go through the exact same process as if you were getting a Commercial class A. Might as well just get the commercial license if one was to go through all the trouble.

You have to have medical certification for CDLs that last a max of 2 years, and if that does not get renewed, the CDL will be not valid.

True. But nevertheless if I was going to be forced to go through the hassle of the full commercial test, I would want the prize at the end. A non commercial class A is worthless outside of personal use. At least if you have a CDL you can make money with the truck or go drive part time anytime you want to make extra cash. In truth, if you can’t pass the physical health requirements for a commercial class A, you shouldn’t be towing class A regardless of whether it’s personal or commercial.

I always stress on the hearing test for the medical card. Some of the docs are cool. I think as long as you get up the first time they call your name you pass. Others really take it to the next level. Same with the balls test. Never know how it's gonna play out at concentra.

The last time they taped my neck which was new. Apparently if your neck is too fat you can't drive.

I read it 3 times, so unless I'm really stupid, that license is NOT required for an RV even if it's over 10K. All you need is a regular drivers license.

"They are not required to drive recreational vehicles, military equipment, fire and/or emergency equipment or certain farm vehicles"

Why don't you call the NC State Patrol and ask them? As they would be the ones writing the ticket, they are probably well-suited to tell you what you need to have if you get pulled over to avoid said ticket.
