Hey all,

Picked up some universal heavy rubber mud flaps since the mopar ones are out of stock with no sign of coming in any time soon. The gator backs here in Canada are $214 per pair which is frankly outrageous. Got 4 heavy rubber flaps (about 25lbs for all 4) and was curious what you guys thought best for an install method.

Comes with self tapping screws but I want to avoid piercing any metal on the new truck.

I think you can use two or three screws that hold the fender flare and then you'll have to drill just one hole through the plastic wheel well. I'd avoid self-tapping screws there, though, and go with a nut and washer. The back of the wheel well is rather easily accessible.

Yeah I did some poking around under there yesterday and came to the same conclusion. Gonna pop out the stock screws and see if I’ll need longer ones once the flaps are on since these new ones are quite thick. I’ll post up pics if it doesn’t end up looking absolutely terrible.

I've never done it but I would think some aluminum pop rivets would work well for mounting the mud flaps to the inner fender.

If they're long enough and you put a washer on both sides, probably.

oem hd flaps use the existing screws and additional plastic rivets. I have had mine to Moab 3X now and never had an issue with them ripping off. down load the instructions and use the same mounting technique3A585F42-9DA0-4EC6-BCCC-1204D5238A3B.jpeg

I was attempting the exact same technique but because the generic rubber flaps I bought are so thick they make a large bulge when going over the uneven area near the bottom of the wheel well near the fender flare. I’m thinking that the OEM flaps must have a cut out or are cut down deeper than these generic things

I bought some from Northern Tool and just cut them down to fit.
Between the flaps and the metal weights I think I was in for all of $150?
Used the screws/hardware already there to attach... the front ones take a bit of shaping to get right though.
