Moving on…

Wow man, is that your property? Beautiful!

I've read quite alot from you since buying my 24 and joining the forum. Of all the thousands of ppl here, it didn't take me long to pick out the handful of very active and legitimately knowledgeable fellers who I tend to pay more attention to, and appreciate. You're one of them. Be a shame for the forum and the HD-owning community to lose your advice and info. Stick around!

Glad to hear you're sticking around, always enjoyed the convos on here and groups on Facebook. Totally understand the desires to save the money and focus on other things around the homestead. Similar to you I'm curious to see what the new engine/trans combo is like after a few years.

I really appreciate that. I plan to stick around and be useful, as well as continue to expand my knowledge on these trucks. I’ll be ordering another Ram HD diesel in 3 years or so. Just taking a temporary hiatus to reallocate fundage to more important projects. I will say, after 80 miles of half ton ownership, I am really impressed. But I won’t be buying another HD diesel until Ram decides to update the cab on them to the larger, roomier configuration. Having all the space in the back. For the kids, groceries, luggage, daily supply stuff, etc is incredible. Plus the leg room.
From a drivers perspective, I think the first thing that popped out at me is the smoothness and how well they track going down the road. Even from brand new, I felt like I was constantly tugging on the steering wheel in my 3500, adjusting left and right as it wandered down the road. This thing feels like I could fall asleep behind the wheel and I’d still make it to my destination unscathed. The other thing is the acceleration and instantaneous power. It makes the same 420 hp and my dually did, but smoother and more responsive. Obviously doesn’t have the torque, but the 3.92 axle does give it more “pep” off the line. The inline six is very smooth running. Even more so than my wife’s 5.7 hemi half ton. I continue to be impressed.

And yes, this is our property. We’ve been very blessed. Bought this just before the Covid housing market when sky high. 7 acres out in the country where I (we) belong. Our current project is the horse barn we started in June of 2024. Slowly but surely coming together. Along with the horses, my wife will have an at-home office for remote work there. I’ve been working off and on trying to get the interior finished. Got the framing mostly done and the horse stalls built. Quite a bit more work to go, but as a teacher, having summers off is very helpful for such things IMG_9025.jpegIMG_8959.jpegIMG_8962.jpeg

Mostly farm related work.
It was a joy to tow with and I’ll miss having the capacity and capability to tow anything I want. But for now, this half ton is the more logical move. I’ll be curious to see how it handles the smaller trailers compared to my wife’s 1500 with the 5.7 hemi

Congrats on your beautiful new truck! A bit off-topic, but that first tractor isn’t a Massey 375 is it?

Close!

It’s a Massey 362 with an ålö Quicke loader. We bought it new in 1994 or 1995 (can’t remember). 3,600 original hours. It has been an utterly wonderful tractor. The only red one to ever grace our farm. Everything else was green, but in those days Deere didn’t offer a comparable tractor in that size class that was worthwhile. It’s one of the things I inherited for our property after the farm sold. I told my wife this tractor helped to build the first empire, and now it’s with me and will help to build its second. If I’m lucky, my son will inherit it one day and it can help him build his empire too. When we designed our barn, I made sure to include a nice place to keep the tractor. It has always had a roof over its head, and it’ll be no different here. It isn’t perfect, but it’s an incredibly nice machine and absolutely ideal size for our 7 acre homestead. What a nice example. There aren’t a huge number of the 360-370 series in North America, and that always amazes me. They’re fantastic tractors. Here’s my 375 with a Westendorf bucket: *thread hijack off*

Agreed. I rarely see them for sale. They are excellent tractors. The Perkins is a nice little four-banger and is very stout for what it is.

Is there really that much difference in the back seat between the HD and the 1500? I know the cab looks bigger, but the one's I've sat in feel very similar.

Big enough that it’s definitely noticeable. Especially when you have two kids in the back us gear, groceries, etc. There’s significantly more leg room and storage, and the flat cab floor in the half ton is substantially better as well.
