MegaCab DRW to SRW conversion

Before I begin, let me say that when I bought my 3500 DRW MegaCab I needed it for towing, but now that my business is changing direction, I don’t need DRW for towing. So at this point, the DRW is overkill for a “daily”.

I’m contemplating selling it outright, but I enjoy the truck and already have a lot of money invested into it.

Also…considering the current/crazy market, it would be rare (nearly impossible?) to find a 2500/3500 truck similar to mine in a SRW configuration.

Instead of selling it, I’m also considering the DRW to SRW swap…especially if someone here on the forums would like to swap axles/beds/etc.

Thoughts on conversion versus outright sale?

Also: the truck is 4 months old, and has 4,400 miles. Condition is near as can be to “pristine/off the showroom floor”.

There is a loaded Laramie mega cab 2500 ctd here in the dallas burbs
Thanks for the heads up…I’ll have to look into that. If the market is still like it was when I picked up my truck, that 2500 MegaCab Laramie will sell fast.

I cringe every time I see someone mentioning doing this, SRW to DRW and vise versa. To be blunt, it's just a bad idea. You are going to completely de-value the truck by doing a conversion like that. Just sell it an get what you need, you will come out way ahead in the long run.

You aren’t wrong…that is my primary option.

If it weren’t a challenge to get a SRW 3500 built exactly like my truck, I would do that route 100%.

But with the market being what it is…nothing is off the table lol

Let me know if you'd be interested in doing the swap. I'm in Texas too. Same color trucks...

Best bet is to order a new one from MD if they are still taking orders for 2022's. If not wait a month or 2 and order a 23.

Also, last time i looked MD had a 2020 limited srw megacab on the lot.

Maybe instead of converting to a true SRW, it is time to lift it and go with Super Singles.

Two great options right here.

I say go for it OP! (Although I love my DRW and would never go back to SRW lol).

I'll have to do some research into the super single idea.

A quick search for pictures of trucks with that setup look pretty dang nice!

If you go that route - here in Texas there is a company called DBL Designs. They would be who I would talk to.
Well it looks like I would need the beefier bones of a 4500/5500 in order to proceed w/those DBL upgrades.

Makes sense, as those MRAP wheels ain’t exactly lightweight… I would think the “smaller” frame & axles of the 3500 would fair so well. Dammit lol

But that conversion would make any truck look 100% BAMF.

I saw it on Instagram (I would show but don't have it anymore) an f450 with a 20" super single wheel they make running BFG KM3's. Something along the lines of that would look killer. They offer more than just MRAP wheels.

I don't have any first hand experience, but I've heard good feedback about Rickson for those with 3500s who don't want to go with a major conversion such as Buckstop or DBL.
