Hello all. I just got my 2019 Big Horn, 2500, CC , SRW, 6.4L. I was driving home and the low fuel light came on with the needle on 1/4 tank. I went to fill up and put in 22 gallons. My question is, is it normal for the light to come on while still showing a quarter tank? If so it's rather disappointing, kind of like having a 22 gallon tank. By the way, good to be here, I love my new truck. Came from a 2010 Tundra.

Welcome to HDRams. The low fuel light should not be illuminating so soon. Attached a clip from the OM that describes where it should be. I don't like fuel getting that low but circumstances on a trip last year had me pushing the range. Low fuel warning illuminated at less than an eighth on the gauge. That was a couple of minutes before I hit the pumps. She took 110 L, which indicated the the warning system was pretty close to what the book says.

When I get fuel as soon as the light comes on its right at 25 gallons. I also find it strange the reserve is 7 gallons
Thanks for the replies. If the light came on with 3.2 gallons left that would be perfect. It's not a big deal during normal driving but when I'm on a trip with the camper, the less fuel stops the better. Looks like I'll have to get it back to the dealer when the light comes on again(had it back for an alignment and tailgate adjustment already).
Thank you. I don't drive much so it will be awhile but I'll certainly let you know if I hit a brick wall.

Mine will illuminate when my miles til empty hits 50. If I’ve been doing all highway I get it when it’s in the red. If I’ve been driving city it will come on at just under 1/4 tank. I believe it only operates off how many miles the truck thinks you have left based on driving habits. 50 is the magic number.
Nature, what was the tailgate adjustment you had done? I ask because mine on the drivers side doesn’t align properly. If you close tailgate by pushing at latch , drivers side sticks out, passenger side looks okay. I have to close by pushing on drivers side corner. At present dealer closed Q-19
I'll have to pay attention next time it gets down there. In any case, if it's showing 50 miles left and still has 10 gallons of gas in it, there is a problem.
It was the alignment of the tailgate at the top left. It stuck out about 1/4". My dealer doesn't have a body shop and they send all body work to a reputable place up the road. My service adviser told me they adjusted the latch or striker. I didn't think they were adjustable but the gap is gone and the left tailgate cable is taught now.

I feel like I made a mental note of the 50 mile mark as well. In past Chrysler vehicles, however, under 30 miles remaining would blank out the number to "--"

I experienced the same thing as in the OP. I posted the below in another thread on the forum, first oil change. Mileage is also discussed there. I’ve noticed the same thing and below is what I posted.
I’m now up to 13.4 MPG average on the EVIC trip meter and am hopeful it’s still going to improve even if only a little. I’ve been watching my driving and paying close attention at fill ups. In doing so I found out the EVIC system has an “safety” feature to prevent you from running out of gas. On 2 consecutive occasions I purposefully drove til almost empty, letting my low fuel light come on before I fill up. I wanted to test the 31 gallon tank capacity and see if that’s what it really holds. After the first couple of fill ups it didn’t seem right so I thought I’d test it. By happenstance both times the light came on the EVIC showed 40 miles to empty when I got the pumps. Both times it took around 25 gallons to top off. So with 40 miles to empty at 13.4 MPG that should mean there’s 3 gallons left in the 31 gallon tank. I’m not good at math but I’m pretty sure that’s a 3 gallon delta, 25+3=28 so 31-28=3...
I called RAM and spoke to the customer service rep and explained the situation. She put me on hold and consulted her supervisor and came back to say that’s a designed safety feature to prevent you from running out of fuel. IF that’s true I’m happy to know but I’m not convinced for sure. I wish they had increased the gas tank size along with the other improvements.
Let me know what you find out if you call RAM. It would be interesting to see what they say to you.

That implies that the OM is wrong as regards the Low Fuel Warning Light and the related specifies for remaining fuel. You hit the nail re the the size of the fuel tanks in these trucks, tho... they're too small.
That's interesting. My EVIC shows 7.1 MPG as I only drive to and from work these days. It's about 1 mile each way and the truck barely gets a chance to warms up, hence the poor fuel economy. I wonder if it's turning my light on early because of the low fuel mileage.

Stop and go kills the mileage for me. I watch the current mileage and average closely. Even when I get it up to 15-16 average on long runs of open road by the time I get home I’m right back down to 13.something because I start getting caught by lights or stop signs.

I wrote customer service for Titan fuel tanks and asked about a large tank for the Hemi. They seem to big the big name in aftermarket tanks for the diesel trucks. Below is the response I received. I’m posting it because I’ve read on other forums where guys say you can buy the large tank for diesel that it doesn’t make a difference. The manufacturer says it does so for now there isn’t a good option for a bigger GAS tank. Frequent stops to fill up or carry an external tank which means you still have to stop so it begs the question why not just stop at a station. An external tank in the bed takes up room and if you’re like me you’ll spill it everywhere every time you use it. I don’ think I’ve ever filled a lawn mower without spilling somewhere in the process. Hopefully we all can get some options in the future.
