Hello, I’ve been running the stock 285/60r20 transforce tires on my 2021 2500 Cummins, factory night edition 20 inch wheels. Im looking to improve the ride quality for my passengers (wife and kids) while towing. I tow a 33 foot 9000lb travel trailer with around 900lbs or so tongue weight. I run air bags and an Andersen wdh.

Im looking at going to an 18 inch wheel and Im struggling to decide whether I need to stay in the 33.5 inch range or if I can do 35s. Im looking at the Toyo at3s so far. The wheels I like so far are a 20 offset, compared to the 54 offset on the factory 20s.

The goal is to get more sidewall to improve the ride feel for the girls, but I don’t want to get too squishy while towing. My current setup is very stable but harsh with the 20s. I never get sway or feel out of control in corners or high winds.

Any thoughts? Anyone regret going with 35s on 18s because it made towing worse? Or, am I worried about nothing?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks G. I see you're running LT285/75R18, thats what Im looking at. Looks good. Did you start with 33s? If so, did you notice a ride quality improvement with the 35s?

@G Mcpherson & I compared notes on tires a few months ago. He let me know what his selection was and I took that into consideration as I looked to bid the Trashforce tires goodbye. One of 'em almost killed me one day on the freeway by blowing up and letting all the air out at 70MPH. Good times...

I put 4 new 295/75R18 Toyo ATIII tires on my stock wheels, and I have been very happy with them.

You sure those aren't 285/75r18 size ? Or maybe 295/70r18?

On my previous Ram (very similar to my current one) I ran some 35x12.50r18 Toyo AT2's. I did quite a bit of towing with both bumper pull and GN trailers, was always very stable. On my current truck I have 35x12.50r17 Toyo AT3's and have done some towing in this config as well as with the stock 20" wheels and 275/65r20 BFG KO2's, no real difference with stability that I could tell. However, on rocky off-road trails the 17's are much smoother than the 20's...

I'm about to install some 305/70r18 Goodyear Territory MT's on some forged 18x9" +25mm wheels...

That a nice wheel who makes it?

I have 305/70x18 BFG KO3s. I have been happy with the tire size other than the BFG bounce. I use the to do light off road and pulling a tongue pull toy hauler. Trailer is 11600 gross weight.
