Limited Trim damaging door

So, I think my trim piece on my rear passenger door came loose and the tolerances are so tight that it started catching and pushing in the front door, damaging it and eventually not letting the passenger rear door open without getting caught. I thought I had a hit-and-run on my hands, but I’m believing that is not the case after I’ve had it fixed. The tolerances are like barely a fingernail width between the passenger door when it opens and the front passenger door. The dealer says this is normal, even though there’s more room on the driver side, although not by much. Was wondering if anybody else was having this issue? I noticed on some older models the trim is flat on the front couple of inches, I assume to make more room to miss the front door when it is closed.

I call BS. Why would they put something on like this that is so obvious to be seen knowing it would be dinged? I have seen none of this so far in my 20 limited.

I have to agree...Could you open the door and show us when the trim is in contact with whatever is doing the damage??

Looks like there is also damage above right at the body line!

That’s what we thought at the body shop when it got fixed. But nobody’s ever over there so I didn’t open it in anything. So we thought somebody must’ve just hit it perfectly. All this until after he repaired it and we realized there is barely a finger nail space when the rear door is open and the front door is closed for the trim to miss the front door. So I’m wondering if the trim started the laminate just a little outward and it cut the door repeatedly somehow and just never noticed it.

Both my doors look like this. No way for the trim to touch. Your door must have been forcefully open to far sometime in the past or it was not assembled correctly at the factory.

That is about how close mine are, my thought was that the trim started to delaminate and bend outward a bit, and started catching the front door, if you notice the notch/wear on the top of trim piece in one of my photos. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts…

While there is still sufficient gap on my truck, the trim piece on the rear passenger door is positioned further forward on the door than the driver side.

Basically, the trim is installed incorrectly on the passenger side. If this is consistent among trucks, it's possible their trim install gauge is off or they have a sloppy line worker. I'm a bit curious why these don't have the step down/cutout like the older trucks, just for the added margin of safety to prevent damage.

Yes, that is my thought! Guess I will wait until it delaminates and see if it starts running the front door…dealer said “no issue…”

I am probably beating a dead horse, but in your pictures it doesn't touch.
Correct, I had it fixed. I never paid attention before the damage to see just how close the tolerances are or were. My concern is they are so close, like a fingernail width, That when the trim starts to delaminate like bow out like almost all trim does versus staying flat against the door after some time it’s going to start catching the front door and pinching it back again. I’m wondering if that’s what happened originally and my car was never actually hit by anybody or anyone.

Didn't realize those were after pictures... Here's to hoping it doesn't happen again!
