Lifter can replacement vs new engine

I wouldn't even consider purchasing a local rebuilt motor compared to OEM. We are talking back yard hacks with a few employees and no true warranty versus a corporation with specialized training, optimized procedures, go/no-go gauges, and an actual warranty. Now I am not saying that there are no good local engine builders but if you want to gamble with that much money then the choice is yours.
Guess it all depends on where you live. If you're in EBF where the only shop in town is Vodka Bob's Tire & Auto...yeah, probably don't want to have him rebuild your engine. I happen to live in NASCAR central just outside of Charlotte where we have reputable engine and performance shops everywhere. Some having been in business since the 60's and 70's. All they do is engines.
