LED Tailgate Lamp Bar?

I have a 2020 Ram 3500 (single rear wheels) and I would like to add the factory LED Tailgate Lamp Bar (68362184AB) (mounting clips, 6509432AA, qty. 2), like other 3500's with dual rear wheels have. My question is does anyone know if the rear wiring has the existing plug in, so this LED Tailgate Lamp Bar would just be plug-&-play? I have looked all over the rear wiring on my truck and I do not seem to see the plug in, unless is is covered up in the wiring harness somewhere. I do not want to cut into the wiring on a new truck. My local dealer does not have any dual rear wheel trucks on the lot for me to look at. Could someone with a dual rear wheel truck shoot me a picture of where your LED Tailgate Lamp Bar is plugged in on the rear wiring harness? Thanks in advance.

From what I've seen, most just tap frame ground and a license plate light 12V wire.

Here's another option that should fit the 7-way plug on the back of the bumper receptacle.

There's also a 5-way flat for those that want to put in a blade style light bar.

I ordered on of these tailgate LED and made a little progress on it today. Wasn't a fan of the big light bar tail/stop/turn, just wanted a little something extra since I'll be wiring up rear fog lights anyway.

Picked up snap nuts from NAPA, Balkamp 665-2396. Bag of 8 for $6.80. Just have to snip the end of one prong off shorter to match the other so it fits/grabs. Probably could have found a plastic plug that works, but these were easy.

Couldn't find a plugged off wire for the LED strip, just the blunt cut wires above the spare.

I had already ordered the Curt 5-pin/7-pin Y cable to use for a Fog Light reverse trigger so I'll just pull tail/marker from the trailer plug.

I couldn't find a stateside resource for the plug on the LED, so I ordered a Delphi/Aptiv WeatherPack connector kit with 2-3-4-5 pin M/F, pins, seals in the kit. Figured I'd use them on a few other things here including the fog lights once I figure out which ones I want.

I need to pull the spare down to install the winch lock, so I'll look around some more to see if there's anything tucked up, but I'm not hopeful. Would have been nice.

So the blunt cut wiring is there for the (LED Tailgate Lamp Bar) above the spare tire, I just need to add the factory male plug?

Unfortunately no, blunt cut wiring is there for Stop Lamp (+BAT and IGN that comes from the Light grey upfitter connection under the dash,)

If you have Aux and want to put it on the IGN, you could use that.

Easiest (maybe not cheapest) clean way to not cut factory wiring is to get one of the Curt Y adapters. I got the 5-pin so I can use the reverse trigger for rear fogs.

Where do the factory dually trucks tap for power? tapping the license plate lights seems like the easiest and cleanest method, use a good tap or cut/strip/solder/heat shrink and you’ll never have an issue

<shrugs>

If you don't want to add the expense of the Curt Y adapter, I'd still use weatherpack connectors and DIY a splice into the license plate lamp.

I would never use a tap or Scotchlok connector for anything that needs to last.

Properly crimped and sealed connections are superior to solder only connections.

Which wire is the reverse trigger? I have the Curt Y adapter w/ 5 pin. I was told the purple wire but I don’t have a purple. My center wire is black. Any help would be appreciated!

Pin 5-blue=reverse

I bought the Curt 5 as well. Would you mind taking pics of how you configured the whole thing? Thanks!

Any updates on this? Thinking of doing this on my 3500 SRW as well.

Here's where the lights plug in behind the bumper on a drw.20211204_135235.jpg20211204_135243.jpg

Appreciate you posting those pics, but was hoping someone who doesn’t have a dually and added this light could share pics of how they wired it up.

Since I have other plans for switchable reverse lights for truck and RV, I added a Curt 7-pin Y pigtail and tapped into the trailer running light. Made a solid crimp and marine shrink tube seal and used a weatherpack connector.

Most tap into the license plate light.

So I want to add the factory/oem rear clearance light bar to my ‘22 2500 Hemi, but Ram only makes the part for 1500s and 3500s? What the?!

They only make it for the dually due to the width regs. Just like the bedside/body panels and rear side marker lights are dually only. Pretty sure it also is only the TRX also due to width.

Just buy the parts and wire it up. Really don't see what all the drama is about.
