Keyfob not working to start truck, but remote starts and unlocks doors fine

Hello! I searched but could not find the info I am looking for. First of all, I did buy ebay keyfobs with remote start and tailgate release and had them programmed by the dealer. They have been working fine for a while until recently. They will remote start the truck fine from a distance, unlock the doors, but when I press the start button it says to use the keyfob. This has been happening more frequently until the other night the truck would still not start using the keyfob to press the button. My question is, how does this system work? Does the strength of the battery matter for starting the truck? What happens If I am out in the middle of nowhere? Is there a place to use the "real" key to start the truck?

Replace the batteries in the fobs…mine did that a bit, batteries fixed it.
Good luck.

My battery started having those symptoms six months after I bought the truck. Swapped batteries and it worked like new.

UPdate! The ebay keyfobs do not use the same 2450 batteries that the OEM fobs do! Back to the store!

Any Insite to my other question? What happens If I am out in the middle of nowhere? Is there a place to use the "real" key to start the truck?

There is not, If there were I’d use the real key exclusively and trash the fobs.
I keep the extra fob with no battery in it but batteries with it in the truck for backup. My truck is in the middle o’ nowhere every trip out of town.
There is an extra real key dangling from a wire harness under the truck.

The real key can unlock the driver door.

Holding the FOB right on the start button allows the button to read the RFID of the FOB to start the truck. That's why the OM shows (and dash displays) to hold the FOB on the start button. Can't say if the aftermarket ones work. Guess pulling the battery and trying would answer that question.

UPDATE: I changed the battery and all seems to be well for now. I should have done as Brutal suggested and tried the start button without the battery in the fob. Next time I guess!
