Keep Gear Indicator on Always?

Is there a magical way to make the gear indicator default to always on? not R/N/D but the actual gear the transmission is currently in? It's annoying having to use the buttons to pull that up on the screen each time, and even without turning the truck off each shift out of drive resets it. Ugh...

It sees the 1500s have this feature on by default? I wish they had made it standard on all the 2019-2024 HD trucks - although I think my buddies 2025 had it enabled from the factory - he just had to turn it on in the EVIC.

So I went out and checked and I have no option for "current gear". All I can change is the info in the center and upper right of the display. No options to change gear setting.

So I'll hook Alfa up to it and see what I can find.

As @sstoner911 shared... It has to be changed in alfaobd first, only then will you see the option in the EVIC menu.

I tried two different OBD devices. One Bluetooth, and one hardwired to USB. They're MX+. Neither would work. Keep getting that same error about OBD interface. I guess I'll give up. I'll just keep using the buttons. Sigh...

Even though it said it failed, have you checked the evic to see if the option is there now?
Sometimes it will say it failed but actually worked.

Edit: Are you using a bypass harness?

Which devices are you using?

They certainly are not all created equal.

You have to use a security gateway bypass.

Ahhh... that could be the problem.

I wonder if the bypass for Ram looks just like the one from Jeep? I have an extra for my Jeep, I could try it if they are the same.

The one for the Jeep likely will work, but you have to disassemble the dash to get it installed. Ram uses a much easier to install one.

You can use the one for the Jeeps, but you have to pull the gauge cluster out because the security module is behind it. The KaodTech module is what you want to get.

ETA - Looks like AH64ID got to it before me.

Thanks. Once I get one of those cables I'll give this another try.
