Just got my Ram 2500 Rebel back from my shop: is Icon Rockclear better than ceramic coating?

I just got my new MY23 Ram 2500 HD Rebel back from my shop who applied Icon Rockclear to my Delmonico Red Pearl-coat. Pictures don't do it justice. I've ceramic coated myself three of my vehicles so I know a little about how it works. Used Rockclear on all of the painted surfaces and ceramic on all the plastic trim and glass.

I had this same shop do my MY23 Corvette last October, as well, using the Ceramic Pro Gold package with 4 layers of 9H ceramic. They started offering Icon Rockclear earlier this year and it's legit. I was skeptical at first, but this stuff is amazing. I think this product will soon takeover and replace ceramic coatings for a variety of reasons, one of which is because you don't have to do paint correction before applying the product. That can be a huge time saver.

30% more gloss than ceramic coating and 35x thicker than ceramic coatings. Nearly the protection of PPF. The other main beauty of this product is that it works even on older vehicles whose paint may not be perfect.

Nice work, looks great

Outstanding appearance! But no paint correction necessary? I wonder how they pull that off....

What does that process cost?
I think the list price was $2600 for a truck this size; I got a nice discount for multiple repeat business in the last 18 months.
Yikes. I was out when I was quoted $1750 for ceramic for my Mega
This same shop did a Ceramic Pro Gold package on my C8 Corvette last October. Four coats of 9H, and a 1 stage paint enhancement just to ensure no swirls or any blemishes in the paint got sealed. And it is nice, but I was going to ceramic coat my Ram like I did my Wife's Navigator and my previous vehicle, a 1500 Silverado with Adam's Advanced Graphene Ceramic.

The bulk of your time spent is in the prep before you can even apply your ceramic coating, but the results were worth the time spent on my previous vehicles. I like the 9+ years of protection on the Adam's Advanced Graphene Ceramic. The Delmonico Red Pearl is a beautiful color but just like black, it's easy to get swirls. I already had a couple of swirls in the paint from the dealer hand washing the truck. However, on my Ram, my shop had been advertising the new Rockclear product since the Spring but I was skeptical of the claims, especially on the older, less than perfect paint.

When I brought my Ram in for they to tint, (I've been getting all of my vehicles tint there since I tried their AutoBahn i3 window tint (better IR heat rejection that Pinnacle FormulaOne I had otherwise used for years,) and Llumar Air 80 on the windshield) I talked to them about the Rockclear and we walked over to the bay where they do the coatings and the tint, and I saw another C8 there getting the Rockclear. They said they had invested about a year looking into Rockclear before they decided to offer it. They flew out to several other shops who were offering it to try and poke any holes that they could in the product before investing into themselves, and they haven't found any. I could do the ceramic coating myself, but I couldn't do the Rockclear myself.

I was sold on the Rocklear because it was more durable and long lasting, didn't require the maintenance that ceramic can (but a ceramic boost doesn't hurt any surface,) it was scratch resistant and had nearly PPF level of rock chip resistance, and yet it still claimed a 30% greater gloss than even ceramic coating. To me, the more durable coating on top of the enhanced gloss erased any doubts that I had about the product.

That is part of the skepticism until you learn more about how the product works. It's similar to another clear coat applied over your own clear coat, that fills in all the pores. Similar to how ceramic coating works, where it fills in all the pores and creates for a slicker surface, but the Rockclear is 25x than a professionally applied ceramic coating. I've seen side by side pics and videos on YouTube and it is hard to imagine. I saw them pulling the tape off of a black Raptor that was maybe 3 ish years old, and just covered in swirls; looked like it was driven through multiple cheap car washes. The paint looked amazing. They would have otherwise had to have spent 14+ hours on a stage 3 paint correction before ceramic coating that vehicle. They showed me a pick of like three scratches in the drivers side fender. Two of the scratches were gone completely although the third one could not get completely out, only because it was down all the way to the bare metal on the fender.

Now that I had the product applied to me personal vehicle, I'd strongly encourage anyone I knew to consider it. I otherwise have no stake in the game, and I'll share my results with my truck as time goes on, once it fully cures, I get it dirty, and the when I wash it. Thus far, it is amazing. I had a couple of swirls in my hood from the dealer at even just 14 miles, but after the Rockclear, it's all one beautiful canvas of Delmonico Red Pearl.

@AirRyan How is the Rocklear holding up a year later?
I just washed my truck two weeks ago and I can report that the Rocklear is living up to if not exceeding expectations. It's relatively easy to get clean and it comes out looking just like it did when I first got it. I've been using Adam's Graphene detail spray to help dry each panel and it's been working well. (I like to keep a sacrificial ceramic topper on my vehicles regardless of how they are otherwise protected, if at all.)

I accidentally hit the wrong button on my key fob as my garage door was opening, so instead of remote starting it dropped the tail gate, and it dropped and scraped up against my garage door as it was 2/3's way open. After I washed it I noticed that I had some small scratches in it. Rocklear is kind of like a self-leveling layer of additional clear coat. (It's probably better than a clear coat.) So I took out my rotary buffer tool that I used to use to prep my vehicles with before I applied my own ceramic coatings, and used a polish/scratch remover and the scratches were gone in seconds. It's not quite PPF level of protection but it's a lot greater than nothing or even a ceramic coating, (which do provide UV protection, but that is about it.)
