Looked up some old threads here today and decided it was time to get rid of the factory installed snow plow better known as the front air dam (or valence). I cannot believe there is sufficient purpose to that item to help with mileage with the exception of crunching it on a rock when four wheeling.

So, with that said, what is a decent brand of Intercooler Guard? Don't want to make the mistake of buying the wrong one if there is an A version and a B version. Help me out here...

I am thinking about the CJC version. But I would love to see others before I buy.

I have the CJC Intercooler Guard. I really like it. Cleans up the front nicely after removing that valance.

OK. Looks to be CJC to be the one (no Geno?).
However, after surfing the net this morning, there was a question brought up on a brand "X" forum by one of their members. The question was, "Does this guard impede performance or allow the intercooler to heat up over the stock setup?" Seems to me that was a legitimate question that really never got answered! I am curious. What are your thoughts?

Lastly, is the CJC guard in black painted or powered coated. I think I already know the answer to this. $20.00 buys a nice painted piece. Just want to be sure. I've seen stranger things in my life over what was to be expected!

Thanks!

I called CJC they said it doesn’t effect anything everything still works and performs good.

I have mine sitting in the garage right now. Not sure when I will get to install it.

The low valance directs air down and away from the underside of the truck and is claimed to produce up to 1MPG better mileage. I don't have a source but recall seeing it.

That said, my last tow was a pitiful 7MPG so I have my doubts it makes much of a difference. I wonder if my poor MPG is fuel related? I almost always fuel up at King Soopers.

That went out the window when I lifted my truck. LOL

That's really bad... I just installed the intercooler guard the day before a week long vacation. I averaged just over 10 mpg over 1329 miles, over 1000 of that was towing.

Is that mpg from the dash or calculated?

That's dippin down into 6.4 Hemi towing mpg's there!!

CJC intercooler guard would be my call as well. It's not gonna be the absolute strongest protection but should be more than enough for all but the more extreme rock crawler guys, and at that point you should be in a high clearance bumper anyway so this doesn't matter anymore.

Website says it's powdercoat. I know their shock guards are painted so you can easily paint them again.

I like what I see - per photo. I haven't yet pulled that plastic air dam off my truck yet. I need to see what it would look like up close and personal.

As far as what is available, it appears I will be giving CIC a call.

Now the question is, for a white truck with black trim, should I go with their black powder coat or unfinish and paint it black (or leave it raw)? The latter idea would be good for the occasional touch-ups. Powder coat, when it chips, touch-up becomes...Hmmmm?

Not the best picture but hopefully it helps.

To each their own but I dislike the idea of leaving it raw if there is chrome. I don't think the two types of metals play well together but to each their own.

If you're planning on smashing on it a lot I'd paint, for the exact reason you gave. Outside that I'd go powdercoat as it will look nicer and is decently durable.
