How much does a truck cap cost?

I am probably going to get a tonneau cover for now, but there is a chance I may want a cap in the future so maybe I will go with a more inexpensive tonneau for now. I know there is going to be a big range in prices, but I really have no idea what they run. What would a decent (but more basic) fiberglass one run for the 6 1/2 foot bed?

they run roughly $2k. some are less. I run a softopper so I have quick access to the bed without having to remove a fiberglass shell.

That's a good idea. Does the softtopper also lay flat like a tonneau cover if wanted?

$2900 all done and said...
ARE MX
Folding front window
Win-doors
Headliner
Cargo racks

I installed my own LED lights and tied it into the cargo lights.

I paid 2700$ OTD
Took 17 weeks to get (COVID)
ARE overlander
Headliner
Roof rails
Fold down front window

If only you had received all that you paid for! :(

I am still waiting for mine and hoping for the best. 15 weeks now closer to $3,000.00 for the ARE MX high rise with added pet screens, double T handles, the fold down front slider window, and the roof rails with Yakima Core Bar rack.

edit: Oh yeah, and headliner. It is pretty much supposed to be just like what Gondul posted above except that I have side sliders rather than the Win-doors.

This prompted me to follow up with the dealer I bought through. So to the original poster, take these current delivery times into account if you decide to order one. Maybe other brands are less backed up right now, but I ordered my ARE described above on February 26. Now scheduled to arrive at the dealer mid July. That will be 21 weeks! So ARE is not getting their backlog reduced, in fact still seeming to be getting longer. Original estimate was 14 to 16 weeks.

Wow, that is a crazy long time you guys are having to wait on these. Thank you for the heads up, but I think for now I may just purchase an inexpensive $200-$300 soft tonneau cover so at least I have some protection if I want to cover something and then I won't be out a whole lot of money if I decide I want a cap or even a hard tonneau someday.

I did just that and got this one.

I found a used one on Craigslist as I wasn’t particular about options (and I’m cheap). The problem with that was the color, body shops in the Denver area want $800 plus to paint and I couldn’t find anyone that does them in their garage. My parents autobody guy will do it for $400, he’s 3000 miles away, but we’re going there anyways.

I looked at new. The guy told me the issue was fiberglass delivery to the factory was unpredictable. I’m glad I didn’t order because we definitely wouldn’t have it for the trip.

I originally had a trifold tonneau of Amazon. It worked great.

Find a used one ($300-$1000) and have it painted. Just got mine (excellent condition) and will be getting it painted or wrapped soon. All total will be less than half the cost of a new Leer 100XQ (no warranty though).

And another advantage if you can find a used one is no 5 month wait. As noted above, I ordered an ARE in February and still waiting. ARE says delivery mid July at earliest.

Just paid 3700 for a leer

Yo Rocky,

Did you look at Leer caps and if so why did you settle on A.R.E.?
I did. I’m not sure if I have a good reason for choosing one over the other but you can only pick one. I do feel like the overlander has a good option to cost ratio but the leer xq (maybe?) is extremely good looking but was about a grand more I think

I was quoted $2618.00 for a 6'4" Leer 100XR with a front slider and roof liner. I just started looking. Is that and decent price?

Just curious, when people get these prices, does that include having them painted to match the truck?
